Winifred Irma Marietta Sookdeo was born in Manchester Berbice, Guyana on November 11, 1942. She was the beloved daughter of Clayton Allison and Francina Letita Greenidge and sister of Josephus Greenidge (Enid), Cleolene Greenidge Jones (Richard) and Mavis Greenidge Myers (William).

She was the spouse of Harold Sookdeo whom she married on November 11, 1971 and was the mother of Sunil Sookdeo (deceased Sept 2022) and Simone Sookdeo. Aunt of Lawrence and Wainwright Greenidge and Jonelle Greenidge-Anderson, Richard Jones Jr. and Denise Jones-Smith.

Winifred graduated from the University of Guyana and worked as a trained school teacher in her native Guyana. She immigrated to Canada and attended the University of Windsor graduating in1980 and settled in Kapuskasing, Northern Ontario where she worked at the Spruce Falls Power and Paper Company. She then moved to Elliot Lake, Ontario when her husband joined Rio Algom Mines.

In August 1984, there was a final move to Etobicoke where she resided for some 40 plus years. Shortly after her move, she joined the Canada Post Corporation at the South Central Letter Processing Plant (SCLPP) where she worked as a Supervisor and Trainer until retirement.

A lifelong member of the Methodist Church, she attended Trinity Methodist Church in Georgetown, Guyana and later Kingsview Methodist Church in Etobicoke. She was an active member involved in various church activities, worship and outreach programs.

Visitation will be held at St. John’s Dixie Funeral Chapel, 737 Dundas St E, Mississauga, on Saturday, May 24, 2025 from 10-12 p.m. Followed by a Chapel Service at 12 p.m. Interment to follow at St. John’s Dixie Cemetery.
