In Celebration of
Wincenty Wos
September 22, 1926 -
May 23, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Wincenty Wos announce his passing on Thursday May 23, 2024 at the age of 97. He was the beloved husband of Mary Rose for over 67 years. He will be missed dearly by his daughter Lillian Wos-Turchyn (Zane), and son Adam Wos (Michelle Smele). He was a cherished “Jaja” to his granddaughters Alyshia, Samantha, Tiffany, Genevieve, and Charlotte. He lived the last years of his life carefree at Wawel Villa with incredible care. Reading under the gazebo, watching the birds and enjoying every moment of every day, Jaja truly loved every moment in what he called home.
He was one of nine children born in Jeziernia, Tomaszow, Poland to Aniela and Jan Wos on September 22, 1926. Brother to Frank, Kazmir, Anthony, Henry, Jean, Helen, Joe and Chester. Despite the hardships and sorrows he endured, his love for his homeland, Poland, burned brightly within him. It was a love forged from the deep roots of his ancestry, intertwined with the rich tapestry of Polish culture, history, and resilience. Finding solace in the enduring spirit of his people, his heart beat in rhythm with the melodies of Polish folk songs, and his eyes sparkled with pride at the sight of Poland's vibrant traditions and customs.
Although his childhood was significantly affected by the war and he suffered greatly, against all odds he persevered and wanted to make a life for himself. He chose to immigrate to Canada and accepted a job in the mines in Pickle Crow, where he worked hard and became very good at what he did. He later moved to Toronto and worked many jobs, but settled into working at Canada Packers until his retirement 35 years later. When he was young and first moved to Toronto, one of his most favourite things to do was go dancing, especially at the Palais Royal. It wasn’t long after his move that he met his lifelong love, Mary Rose Ravlich, who swept him off his feet and whom he married in 1955. They were together for almost 70 years.
Together Mary and Wincenty loved to go out for breakfast with family and friends, go shopping, try their luck at casinos and travel abroad. Anywhere he could drive, he would go. He wanted to see and appreciate all the world had to offer.
For Wincenty, prayer and his belief in God was unbreakable. He would attend chapel daily at Wawel Villa and found comfort in daily prayer. He said he enjoyed praying, especially when he was young, prayer gave him peace.
Now that Jaja has embarked on his greater journey, we all hold him in our hearts and know that he is with us always.
Rest in peace dearest Wincenty, loving dad, cherished Jaja. You have earned rest and may our loving God whom you prayed to daily, welcome you into his loving embrace. You are always with us, and never forgotten.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Wawel Villa Seniors Residence who contributed to his outstanding care over the last five years. The staff has touched the hearts of both Wincenty and Mary with their kindness, generosity and unwavering spirit. As we mourn their passing, let us also celebrate the beautiful legacy that Wawel Villa Seniors Residence has allowed them to leave behind.
