In Celebration of

William James Hannah

December 6, 1932 -  March 7, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of William James Hannah, in his 89th year. Loving father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend, Bill passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Credit Valley Hospital on March 7th, 2021, after a brief illness.

Bill was born December 6th, 1932, in Edmonton, Alberta, and remained a proud Westerner his whole life. Predeceased by parents John and Sarah Hannah, as well as siblings John, Scotty, Henrietta (Cyril), Nancy (Tom), Jean. Bill is survived by his loving wife Mary-Ellen, his adored children Jerod and Meaghan, his sister Emily (Nick), and many nieces and nephews.

Those who knew Bill knew a gentle man, always ready with a smile, a story, and a witty saying. If you needed something, no questions were asked and he was there, with kind words, a helping hand, or a ride. Mr. Rogers used to say, “look for the helpers”, and that was Bill. He was a lifelong volunteer, delivering Meals on Wheels with the Red Cross for over 20 years, volunteering in church as a Senior Alter Server for funerals, or behind the bar at church events, and in our schools with the Kiss and Ride Program. He was proud to serve in all capacities, and he truly embodied what it means to be a part of a community. He will be missed by so many family and friends, neighbours who became family, and everyone in between. We are so heartbroken, yet so touched by the outpouring of love and kind words for Bill.

We wish we could all be together at this time, and we know when the day is right, we will all meet in our backyard for a cold drink and memories of Bill. His favourite place with all his favourite people.

If desired, donations to The Lung Health Foundation (https://lunghealth.ca/) or The Trillium Health Partners Foundation (https://trilliumgiving.ca/) are appreciated.

A private family funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 11 a.m. Family and friends wishing to view the service through the live stream can do so via the following link (please copy and paste into a new browser window):
