Wanda Pratt

February 22, 1933 -  April 13, 2023

Peacefully, at Del Manor, Etobicoke, on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at the age of 90. Beloved wife and best friend of the late Stephen for 65 years. Loving mother of the late Randy. Wanda will be missed by her nieces Susan Baddely and Linda Vervoorn, cousins Lisa (Peter) Chanady and Stella Yurasyk. Adored great Aunt to Shannon, Mark, Scott and Derek. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of the Jane Subway, on Tuesday April 18, 2023, from 10 a.m., until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 11 a.m. Interment Park Lawn Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Canada.

We were so sorry to hear of Wanda's passing. Our friendship of over 50 years has suddenly come to a close. We shared many a visit although we moved away so it was then via the phone, cards and letters. A visit in August 2018 was the last, however we remember having lunch with Wanda in the dining room. What a treat! We were looking forward to a visit on April 28th. We missed by a few days!

We recall her tasty beef steak tomatoes from her garden. A phrase often said by Wanda was "It is what it is." When we too lost our son Wanda understood and expressed kind words on the phone as well as writing a letter of encouragement to us. What a blessing she was at that time.

She and Steve traveled to Japan as well as coming to see us in the beautiful mountains of Canmore, Alberta where we were living at the time and experienced many more world tours. One year we sent a card, our usual greeting in January to remember the passing of their beloved son Randy and later Steve. We sent a Japanese version of Psalm 23. Wanda commented on the phone that is was lovely.

The Lord is my Pace-setter, I shall not rush;
He makes me stop and rest for quiet intervals.

He provides me with images of stillness, which restore my serenity;
He leads me in ways of efficiency through calmness of mind, and His guidance is peace.

Even though I have a great many things to accomplish each day,
I will not fret, for His presence is here.

His timelessness, His all-importance, will keep me in balance.

He prepares refreshment and renewal in the midst of my activity,
anointing my mind with His oils of tranquility.

My cup of joyous energy overflows.

Surely harmony and effectiveness shall be the fruits of my hours,
For I shall walk in the pace of my Lord, and dwell in His house forever.

Liz's late Mom and Dad too enjoyed Wanda and Steve's company. Her Mom wrote a poem and had a portrait painted of Randy. Here is the poem.

Your lovely fresh innocent smile
Still lingers in our minds
Though you knew all the while
Time was hard to find

Soon you'd leave for a better place
Joining Saints of every race
No pain, anguish or sorrow there
In beautiful Heaven so fair!

Randy, we loved you so much
Glad you had your own Gremlin Car
You drove with that special touch
Not knowing how long or how far.

Someday we'll join you up there
Until then we'll be brave and endure.
Heartaches and joys here to share
Lord help us we need You for sure.

We will always have Steve, Wanda, and Randy on our hearts. We loved you all and will greatly miss you. Sorry we are not able to come to the funeral. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

To Wanda's Family,

I had the privilege meeting Wanda and Stephen when they decided to come have a visit to the Delmanor Prince Edward presentation centre and in-turn decided to join our new community. They had welcomed me to their home many times before making their move and I always enjoyed my time spent with them. Over the years, I have seen Wanda at Delmanor, and it was so lovely to catch up with her (including her being a model in a recent photoshoot - she was such a good sport). Sending you my deepest condolences, Wanda was a lovely lady, and I will miss seeing her when I am at Delmanor Prince Edward.
