In Celebration of

Wanda Poprawa

September 8, 1924 -  May 7, 2022

Wanda was welcomed into the Eternal Life of Heaven in her 98th year on May 7th 2022, with her children at her side.

Wanda lived a full, happy and adventurous life, she often said “I have been fortunate to visit 6 continents so there is nothing else I need”. True to her Virgo nature, she documented in detail her travels as well as her early life in Poland, her internment in Siberia, travel during the war through Uzbekistan, Persia and her life for 6 years in the refugee village of Nyabyeya, Masindi at the edge of the tropical Budongo forest in Uganda, gratefully all with her family. Even in the face of adversity she treated everything as an adventure and a learning experience. Wanda loved to study languages and spoke several including Swahili.

Settling in England after the war she married Mieczysław and immigrated to Canada in 1950, soon after her parents Olga and Franciszek Wolak followed with her brothers, Zdzisław and Leslie. Wanda raised her two children, Andrew and Izabela with the entire family always close by. Always keeping busy sewing, cooking and offering an open house for entertaining.

In retirement, she purchased her beloved home in Almunecar, Spain, where she spent over 40 years visiting and again entertaining friends and family with an open heart.

Always in our hearts and grateful for her love, caring and devotion. Her spirit will live on in her son Andrew and wife Rita, daughter Izabela and husband Mike, granddaughter Alexandra and husband Brandon, grandson Jason and great grandson Charlie.

God Speed on Angels Wings!

I remember the days as a teenager playing ping pong in the poprawa basement and Mrs. Poprawa would always provide refreshments .
God bless her .

Deepest regrets from Carol and I. Wanda certainly had a full life with the types of experiences very few of us will or have had. Her strength over her 98 years is truly amazing. She will be more than welcome in her eternal life.

Isabelle,

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. From someone who has recently lost a loved one, I know how you feel. And the fact that they have been part of your life for so very long makes it even harder. Your mother will be in our prayers.

I will always remember as a young boy how warm and welcoming she, along with her husband, were to me! Always kind and hospitable, and enquiring as to how I was doing.
I was always amazed at her sense of adventure and travel!!
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.
May she Rest In Peace. Amen.
