In Celebration of

Violet Vatistas (nee Coucopoulos)

July 12, 1932 -  May 19, 2024

Our mother was born as a middle child on July 12, 1932 in Tripoli Lebanon, to Constantinos and Maria (nee Georgiadis). She spent most of her early years growing up in Tripoli and El Mina until she met and married our father Andreas, and her true adventures began. First moving to Saida, later to Beirut where George and Spiro were born. Finally moving to a small village in the mountains, Kornet Chahwan, where she was fondly known as “em George” (George’s mother), where her third child Constantinos was born.

Our mother’s international adventures started in the early seventies when the family moved to Nicosia Cyprus where some life long friendships were forged. A few years later, the family moved to Athens Greece. While living in Greece she devoted her time caring for her family. Our parents visited many cities, towns and islands throughout Greece. Mom was lucky to travel internationally while accompanying dad with his job. Among many European cities, she visited Bruge in Belgium was one of her favorites, as was Nice, France where she reconnected with her mother after many years apart. Things were not always easy, but she made it work. What strength she lacked in physical size she made up mentally.

Mom loved to knit. Those were the days that you just couldn’t buy them off the rack and the final results were some nice sweaters for all of us. She had an artistic side as well and she tried her hand at painting however her real passion was to look after her family.
Our parents made their final move to Toronto in the mid eighties to be with their three sons and their families. Always the adventurous couple , they travelled to Sydney Australia, visiting family, Hawaii, Vancouver, Victoria, Calgary and the Rockies, Ottawa, Montreal, Niagara Falls and many other cities and towns in Canada, and Florida in the US.
When dad was no longer able to travel mom was there for him ensuring that he was taken care of until his passing. Mom was very healthy and active until her early nineties when she started to slow down and finally ending up at the Hellenic Nursing Home in Toronto. Where her three sons visited regularly.
Sadly, after a day of visits from her family, our mother passed away peacefully around midnight with Kostas by her side

She was never left alone as we were always asked by our father to be there for her.
She lovingly leaves behind her Sons George (Helen), Spiro (Evangeline-Efi), Constantinos (Patricia); Grandchildren Andreas (Melissa), Philipas, Christina and great granddaughters Evangeline and Kassandra; as well as her siblings, nieces, nephews and their families.

Violet is predeceased by her devoted and loving husband, Andreas
She will be deeply missed by all of us.

My deepest condolences to you all.
Loosing a mother is like loosing a part of oneself; the pain is immeasurable and the void, profound. In this difficult time, you may find comfort in the memories and love she left behind. Her legacy is not just in the past; but in the strength and kindness she instilled in you, lies a treasure of memories, of which I was fortunate to be a part, and which we will cherish forever.
My deepest sympathies are with you during this time of loss.

Our sincerest condolences to the family and extended family.
It's never an easy thing losing a loved one
but losing a parent,In this case a mother,
is most likely the hardest of all.
She raised three amazing brothers that have been my privilege to have known for over 40 years. They loved and cared for her till she was called to be with her loving husband.

"Her death takes place in the shadow of new life. She's not really dead if we find a way to remember her"
We remember her by the family she raised
and they in the families that they are now raising and have raised ,
as her spirit is living in them
and in all who knew her.
All our love,
Laki n Jane Baharis
