In Celebration of

Ubbo "Uppy" Wagner

June 13, 1938 -  April 21, 2024

Uppy was preceded in death by his wife Helen Berezansky and his father, Ubbo, mother Helena, brothers Leo, Richard, Willie, and Dickie, sister Annie, as well as nephews Johnny and Lenny. He is survived by his ex-wife, Arlene, and their children, Robert, James, Helena, and Anita.

Born on June 13, 1938, in Den Haag, Netherlands, Ubbo embarked on a remarkable journey that took him from his homeland to Canada, where he would build a life filled with passion and purpose. He was handsome, charismatic, and began his career at a young age, working alongside his family in the Auto Services business, laying the foundation for his lifelong work ethic and dedication.

In 1959, Ubbo made the courageous decision to move to Canada, where he joined the family business, Ubbo Wagner and Brother Enterprises, ultimately becoming an integral part of Royal Auto Body for over five decades. Alongside his brothers, he played a pivotal role in expanding the family business, which stands as a testament to his hard work and vision.

Through his business associates, he developed lifelong friendships that enriched his life and the lives of those around him. Together with Helen Berezansky for over 45 years, they cultivated lasting friendships, enriching the lives of all who knew them both in Canada and in their winter home in Fort Myers, Florida.

In his leisure time, Ubbo found solace in the simple pleasures of life. Whether casting his line on Lake Simcoe, betting on horses, or savouring moments of camaraderie over a shared meal, he embraced each experience with genuine enthusiasm and warmth.

Special thanks to the many doctors, nurses, and technicians at Princess Margaret Hospital and the University Health Network who cared for him during his cancer journey. In addition, special thanks to his daughter Anita and personal care worker Danish who cared for him during his cancer diagnosis and treatment during this past year.

In honor of Ubbo's memory, his family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of their choosing, in lieu of flowers.

Ubbo "Uppy" Wagner will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for those dear to him. The only thing bigger than Uppy was the size of his heart. May his spirit live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held at Turner and Porter Funeral Home, Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto, on Wednesday April 24, 2024 from 2 pm - 4 pm and 6 pm - 8 pm.
