In Celebration of

Tom Michalakos

May 21, 1933 -  September 16, 2023

It is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Anastasios (Tom) Michalakos on Saturday, September 16th, 2023, at the age of 90. Tom's life was a testament to love, family, and the enduring ties that bind us to our roots.

Tom was the beloved husband of Kety for an extraordinary 62 years. He was the loving father of Evelyn (predeceased), Chris and his wife, Jeannie, and Jason and his wife, Kathleen. His role as Pappou to Thomas and Kayla brought immeasurable joy and pride to his life. Tom was a loving brother to Katina, Sotiris, Kosta, Yiannis, Aristides and Takis.

Born in the historic village of Xirokambi, Lakonia, Greece, in 1933 to Xristos and Evnomia. Tom embarked on a life-changing journey when he immigrated to Canada in 1951, seeking a brighter future and new opportunities. His culinary journey began at the Pickfair Restaurant and Banquet Hall on Lakeshore Road in Mimico, where his passion for food and hospitality first flourished.

In 1971, Tom, along with his brothers, realized a dream by establishing the beloved Terry’s Burger House and Tavern in Streetsville, a restaurant that would become a gathering place for the community, known for its warm hospitality and delicious cuisine.

Tom's remarkable memory was a source of wonder to his family and friends. His ability to recall events, places, people, and the intricate threads of relationships left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His wisdom was both timeless and boundless, a testament to a life well-lived and rich in experience.

Tom's love for his homeland was profound, and he cherished every opportunity to return to Greece, visiting family, reconnecting with old friends, and immersing himself in the timeless beauty of his village. He brought the spirit of Greece back with him to Canada, infusing it into every corner of his life.

In retirement, Tom enjoyed morning coffee and visits to Cloverdale Mall with friends. These moments were filled with animated discussions about Greece, politics, history, and philosophy, offering a glimpse into Tom's profound love for learning and connection.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Turner and Porter Peel Chapel, located at 2180 Hurontario St. in Mississauga on Monday, September 18th, 2023, from 4 pm to 9 pm.

Funeral service will be held at Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church on Tuesday, September 19th, 2023, at 10am. Following the service, Tom will be laid to rest at St. John's Dixie Cemetery, situated at 737 Dundas St. E in Mississauga.

Tom Michalakos leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and the enduring bonds of family and friendship. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Mick passing. I did get to see him one afternoon a few weeks ago, don’t know if he recognized me, or reached out and grabbed tightly to my hand because that’s his warm natured way. So glad I brought my dad that day for a quick front porch visit. Condolences to all, to the man who looked the same to me for the last 50 years xo he will be missed.
