In Celebration of

Thomas "Paul" Harrison

February 29, 1944 -  November 7, 2021

Thomas Paul Harrison passed away on November 7, 2021, at the age of 77 after a bravely fought battle with cancer. Paul was born in Toronto, and shared his wartime, leap-year birthday with his twin sister Margo. Always industrious and driven, Paul dedicated most of his life to helping young people reach their potential and achieve their dreams. He was a teacher and guidance counsellor with the Peel Board of Education for many years, and continued to act as a supply teacher and a drivers’ education instructor during retirement. Youth in Action, the painting and landscaping company he founded and ran for 10 years, was another way Paul helped young people find purpose and employment. Friends will remember him for his kind and giving heart, and his eagerness to lend a hand or to offer advice. In his later years, Paul enjoyed spending summers at his cottage on Tasso Lake, landscaping his gardens, and taking his beloved golden retrievers for walks. Paul is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Audrey Harrison, and his great-nephew Thomas Zita. He is survived by sisters Donna Fitzgerald and Margo Pereira, nieces Katherine Fitzgerald and Kristin (Sandy) Zita, and godson Kyle Mander. He will also be missed by many cousins, neighbours, and good friends.

A private family service will be held, with cremation to follow. Due to the limitations still in place surrounding COVID-19, attendance is limited to invited guests only. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Youth Without Shelter (https://yws.on.ca/), The Ontario SPCA (https://ontariospca.ca/) or a charity of your choice benefitting young people or animals.

Paul was our wonderful next door neighbour and friend on Trapper Crescent for almost 18 years. Our friendship continued when he moved to Tillsonburg where invitations to visit with sumptuous Chinese dinners and generous hospitality awaited us. Our memories of his kindness, generosity and devotion to his dogs will be treasured. Our deepest condolences to Margo and the entire Harrison family. We will miss you Paul.

I knew Paul as my older cousin, at family get-togethers in my childhood. We moved several hundred miles away more than 60 years ago, but l looked forward to Paul's witty Christmas card letters for decades. He came to multiple family reunions l organized in the 1980s. He was genuinely caring and interested in our lives. We lost touch during the past 30 yrs since l lived 1000 miles away. I'll never forget the true love he had with his students, and his beautiful dogs. And his ever-present teasing, which l believe was how he demonstrated caring. May he rest in peace in Heaven, where l have no doubt he is.

Lovely obituary. I had no idea Paul continued his support of youth after his retirement from Peel. My sincere condolences to Margo and Donna and to his nieces, Godson and many friends. Rest in peace Paul.

I have fond memories of seeing Paul at family gatherings and always laughed when he gave my grandpa (Clare Farrow) a hard time about something!
