Theodoros Miragias, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, passed away due to Alzheimer’s at the age of 86 on November 18, 2023. He is survived by his two children Vivian and Gus, his grandchildren, Solomon and David and his brother Niko. He was predeceased by his wife, Despina Miragias, his sister Christina Fefekos, his brother George Miragias, his parents, Konstantinos and Paraskevi Miragias and more recently his sister Vasiliki Genovezos.

Theodoros, known as Theodore, Ted or Teddy in various circles, was born in 1937, to Konstantinos and Paraskevi Miragias in the small village of Pardali, not far from Sparta in Greece. He told many stories about farming, hunting and fishing in this bucolic setting and close-knit community.

After moving to Canada in the 1960s, he settled in Toronto and landed a job with Pure Metal Galvanizing in Mississauga. He worked hard and soon became a Lead Hand and was very proud to have played a key role in coordinating the formation of a labour union to advocate for and protect worker’s rights to a safe workplace as well as fair wages and HR policies.

In 1965, Theodoros married Despina and they went on to have two children, Vivian (Paraskevi), and Gus (Kosta). They built a life together and supported their children through school to help them build theirs.

Theodoros had an appreciation for well-designed clothing and automobiles and later in life, enjoyed taking ballroom dance lessons. He was a very family oriented and social man who was talented at growing mega vegetables in his backyard and loved sharing meals with his family and friends, who will truly miss him.

A visitation has been coordinated at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel (2357 Bloor Street West) on Friday, November 24, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Funeral services will take place at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church (1 Brookhaven Drive, Toronto, ON, M6M 4N6) on November 25, 2023 at 11:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Adult Day Program at the 33 Winona Drive location of the Hellenic Home for the Aged, a program that provided invaluable help, support and companionship to Theodoros when he really needed it.
