In Celebration of

Terezia Sikorcin

October 21, 1931 -  December 17, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother. She passed away peacefully with her children Andrea, Ingrid, and Otto, and son-in-law Ali, by her side.

Mama had a will like no other, leaving Slovakia to create a new life in a foreign country, a life guided by a strong sense of fairness and justice. Her resilience and conscientiousness enabled her to overcome adversities as she raised three children on her own. We are eternally grateful for the sacrifices she made in the name of love and family.

Mama will forever be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and generosity. She never hesitated to give of herself to her family and friends. Yet what set her apart was the humanity she showed to strangers: when she learned that a man to whom she regularly gave spare change had passed away, she asked to be taken to his funeral.

Everyone who knew her was touched by her smile, humour, and gentle soul. She will be missed by her loving family in Slovakia.

In her honour, we ask you to share your thoughts and prayers in the Guestbook. We will take them with us to Slovakia, where she will be laid to rest with her family.

"Zvíťazí len ten kto sa nevzdá, ale bojuje až do konca."
"Victorious is the one who never gives in, but fights to the very end."

Rest in peace, Mama.
Till we meet again.

Andrea, Ingrid, and Otto I am so saddened by the news of your mother’s passing. I spent a lot of time with her in her home, sitting on her couch, eating her delicious food, especially her lentil soups.

She was always so kind, generous, and loving towards me. Her smile was a very kind, sincere and nurturing one which always made me feel comfortable each time she opened the door to let me in to her home.

I loved her like a mother and can only hope that she is resting peacefully and enjoys her return to her love and home, Slovakia.

My thoughts and prayers to all of you. She was a beautiful person.

Dear Ingrid,

I was just speaking about you today to a friend about our friendship through the years. I am so sad to read about your mother’s passing. After reading about her, I can see how many of her wonderful qualities you posses. Among them, an indomitable spirit and a heart open and loving towards others. I wish you peace as you navigate this season of grief. Sending love and light to you and all your family.

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting her but knowing both Ingrid and Andrea, I can tell she was a great mother. I know she was loved and now in a better place.
