It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sydney George Timmings, 92, on March 18, 2020, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Syd was born in New Toronto to Irene and Sydney Timmings on October 8, 1927. While working at Gilby’s Distillery, Syd attended night school and graduated from Jarvis Collegiate Institute in 1950. In 1949, at the age of 22, he married his childhood sweetheart Gloria Bunch and they soon started a family. In those early years, Syd built a home in Port Credit and worked at Silverwood Dairy. In 1966, the family moved to a farm near Orangeville where Syd enjoyed the farming lifestyle. He eventually decided to work closer to home by accepting a position at Union Carbide. In time, further changes were in store for Syd. He met his soul mate Rosemary at work. They shared many special times together over the years, in particular, travel. Syd had a great passion for sports and he avidly followed his favourite teams. He had a great love and knowledge of horses and horse racing and was a long-time member of the Toronto Thoroughbred Racing Club.
Syd is survived by his companion Rosemary Armstrong; his children David, Robert (Carol), Mark (Jean-François), Carolyn (Gerald) and step-son David Armstrong; grandchildren Rebecca (Jeff), Melissa (Andrew), Caitlyn, Brendan (Madison), Sarah (Jonathan), Brittany (Steven) and Connor; and great-grandchildren Kaylee, Hadley, Jace, Hunter and Jade. He is predeceased by parents Syd and Irene Timmings and brother Donald Timmings.
A celebration of life for Syd will be announced at a later date.
