Passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family, on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga, at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Franka. Loving father of Nick (Linda) and Dan (Kelley). Adored Dida to Vanessa, Klara, Daniel and Luka. Dear brother to the late Jerko (Iva), Andelko (Vera), Nikola (Slavica), Milica (the late Srecko Jurisic) and Nediljko (Melita). He will be greatly missed by all of his extended family and friends in Canada, USA, and Croatia.
Steve was born in Biorine, on the Dalmatian coast of Croatia. He immigrated to Canada in 1958. Starting in Hamilton - working on a tobacco farm for $0.10/hour, to Sudbury working hard in the nickel mines - he slowly started to build a new life for himself and his new bride. After moving back to Hamilton, he worked briefly in the steel and manufacturing industries before getting into the construction business. There, he started off working for others before successfully going into business for himself in which he remained until retirement. Steve retired in 1997, focused on helping his sons and spending time with his adored grandchildren. He cherished visiting his beloved Croatia in the summers and in his free time greatly enjoyed bowling and playing bocce. Steve’s legacy is his commitment to family: teaching his sons and grandchildren about life, integrity, and honour and coming to Canada alone, making a life for himself and sponsoring many family members to join him. We are all now blessed with the love and support of our extended family.
Special thanks goes out to the staff at The Credit Valley Hospital ICU, who gave Steve loving and tender care over the past couple of weeks.
