It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stefan Zachodniak in his 98th year. Predeceased by his wife Gemma (Reolon). Father (Tat) of Adrian (Shelley), Nadia (Frank) and Sonia (Kerry). Grandfather (Dido) of Andrew (Chiara), Lara (Jay), Michael (Kate) and Thomas. Great-Grandfather of Leah and Olivia. Stefan was born in 1921 in Lichinci, Buchach, Ukraine. After the war, he resided in England where he met and married our Mother. They immigrated to Canada in 1959. Stefan was proud of his Ukrainian heritage and even taught our Italian Mother how to make cabbage rolls, perogies and borscht. He was an avid reader and debater of current Ukrainian events and a supporter of his local church. Our Dad was hard working and a fixer of all things. He was artistic and surprised us with his talent for paintings and wood carvings. He travelled to many places with the Ukrainian clubs and regularly attended social and cultural events. His favourite pastime was playing cards at his club every Thursday and baking delicious muffins for his family and friends. He enjoyed gardening, pickling and wine making. He loved his coffee with the occasional shot of brandy. He was strong, smart and maintained his independence in his own home until his unfortunate accident.
