It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Stan Sota, on January 29, 2024, at the age of 83. He left this world peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family and the memories that will forever remain in all of our hearts.
Stan lived a life filled with meaningful experiences. He was very proud of his long career in architecture that began at Ron Thom Architects, evolved into teaching for many years at Ryerson and Humber College, and culminated in a private practice, from which he retired only a few years ago.
Fuelled by his passionate interests in history and culture, his wanderlust took him all over the world, visiting more than 50 countries in his lifetime. He was an avid skier well into his 70’s, a competitive Trivial Pursuit player, and a lover of everything colourful, particularly when it came to his wardrobe.
Stan touched the lives of those around him through his charming wit and energy, and his delight in sharing his wealth of knowledge. Whether telling stories around the dinner table or making memories with friends around the pool, Stan was always up for a playful get-together.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Irene, and his cherished children, Daniela and Teri (Chris). He was the proud grandfather of Cole and Tristan, who brought immeasurable joy to his life.
It was Stan’s wish that a celebration of his life be held to honour him. Details will be announced in the coming months.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Medecins Sans Frontieres or the World Wildlife Fund, both causes close to Stan's heart.
May he rest in peace, and may we find comfort in the memories we shared with him.
"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed, and very dear."
