After a long and happy life, Matina peacefully passed away at home on Thursday, surrounded by her loving husband Costa of 64 years, and her daughters Gail and Cindy.

She was a loving mother to Gail (Pablo) and Cindy (Dario), and an adored Yiayia to Valentina, Lucas, Alessia, and Isidora.

Born and raised in Athens, Greece, Stamatina came to Canada in 1957 at the age of 22, to marry Costa and to create a new life together. She worked hard and lovingly raised her family in her beloved Toronto.

Stamatina was always quick to laugh and share a joke, and treasured her close circle of friends from the old days. Never without a touch of lipstick and her Chanel Number 5 fragrance, she had a firecracker sense of humour and wit and always managed to make those around her smile. She always welcomed family and friends with an open heart, something delicious coming from her kitchen and bottomless cups of coffee. She loved a good conversation and her garden, but nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her adoring family. She will be greatly missed.

In memory of Stamatina, donations may be made to the Princess Margaret Hospital.
