In Celebration of

Sophie Josephine Tos (nee Zembala)

June 8, 1931 -  May 9, 2024

Sophie, in her 93rd year, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024 after a brief illness. Our “matriarch” lived a long and happy life dedicated to Wally, her devoted husband of nearly 70 years. Predeceased by her parents, John & Josephine (Śliska) Zembala; and sister, Christine Sikorski. She will be remembered dearly by her sister Dianne Lukas. Loving mother to Brian, Barbara (Kent Ruhnke), and Christine (Reynold Unwin). Awesome Babci to Laura (Frederic Tissot), Corey (Blair Adam), and Nicole (Stephen O’Riordan). Babi to Kayla, Jax, and Blake Tissot; Bennett, William, and Annabelle Ruhnke; and Emily and Ava O’Riordan. A graduate of the Toronto Normal School, Sophie was an elementary school teacher for 10 years before choosing to focus on her family and home. She was a founding member of the Marie Curie Skłodowska Association about which her charitable work and social life revolved. Sophie enjoyed holidaying with Wally, was an avid bridge player, and adored spending time at the family cottage on Georgian Bay. She will be remembered as a charming, congenial, loyal, diligent, caring, and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Many thanks to the 10th floor staff at Etobicoke General Hospital for their excellent care. Cremation and a private family service have taken place. Donations to Copernicus Lodge, or to a charity of your choice, would be appreciated.

Sophie was a close friend. We met through the Marie Curie Sklowdowska Club and enjoyed many bridge games, cottaging and playing golf with our husbands. She had a great sense of humour
My condolences to Wally and the family.

First met Sophie and my other Canadian family when I traveled from Detroit to be a jr usher at her and Wallys' wedding. She was a lovely, magnetic person that I instantly loved the rest of my life.. Sad that we didn't see more of each other over the years due to geography. Still remember her and her great family ❤️ Dennis Zembala

I am saddened to hear that we lost a wonderful woman. She will be remembered for her strength and her dedication to her family.
May the Lord keep you in the palm of His hand.

Deepest condolences to you and your family, Chrissy. I am so sorry for your loss
Like myself, you have been blessed with unbeleivable parents. We are the lucky ones indeed.
Love,
Ernie
