In Celebration of

Sister Maria (Po-Man Fok) Consolata (CSSF) Felician Sister

June 30, 1942 -  April 15, 2021

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sister Maria Consolata Fok, who unexpectedly and tragically passed away as a result of a vehicle accident on April 15, 2021. She was 78 years old and in her 35th year of religious life. Sister Maria Consolata will be greatly missed by the parish community of St. Agnes Tsao Parish where she had worked since 2005 and will be remembered fondly by the members of Chinese Martyrs Parish where she ministered for 23 years. She served from 2005 until the present time at St. Agnes Tsao Kouying Parish in Markham, sharing her time in helping both parishes. When ministering as a pastoral assistant, she especially loved to visit the home-bound and those in nursing homes, and prepared many, many elderly for Baptism and initiation into the Catholic faith. She enjoyed visiting the nursing homes and assisted the parish priests for Mass once a month. Sister Consolata served several times as a spiritual guide on pilgrimages with the parish. She was very grateful for the opportunities and studied much about the places she and the parishioners would visit, so she could explain the significance and history of these places. The trip that was most transforming for her, was her trip to Medjugorie. She felt Mary’s presence and grace and she explained it was a real inner conversion for her.

She had a special devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and loved the image of Sr. Faustina’s Divine Mercy image. Also, Sister had a great love for Mary and for many years served in the Legion of Mary.

God gifted Sister Maria Consolata with great artistic ability, especially in painting and handiwork. She has completed many watercolour paintings depicting God’s great beauty. Her design and needlepoint projects were exquisite. Sister had a sense of humour, was perceptive, and had a big heart. In her unique way, she did many little things to make others happy.

In reflecting on her life when she celebrated 25 years as a Felician Sister, Sister Consolata wrote, “I am deeply grateful for my vocation to the religious life with the Felician Sisters. I am also grateful for all the sisters with whom I have shared in my daily living. Ever since I was a novice, I realized that religious life is not only fulfilling mission work but also is a gift helping me know who I am in God’s eyes.” Sister Maria Consolata died doing what she loved – going to work to minister to God’s people.

Her Felician family, friends, and church community will miss her joyful spirit.

And especially, she will be missed by her family. Sister Maria Consolata (Po-Man Fok) was the loving sister of Po-Lam, Freda, Alexandra, Portia and sister-in-law, Laura; beloved aunt of several nieces and nephews. Sister is predeceased by her parents, Hang King and Wai Hung, and two brothers, Wan-Chu and Henry.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Name of Mary Convent Chapel on Friday, April 23rd, at 9:30 am.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Turner & Porter “Neweduk” Chapel, Dundas Street, Mississauga, Ontario.

Goodbye Connie. Loved knowing you and spending time with you in Welland. We called ourselves Monkey friends, as we were both born same year 10 days apart and in the year of the monkey. We had so many laughs together and I will miss knowing you are no longer alive doing your work in your parish and in your community. R.I.P. my little monkey friend.

Sr. Fok was the first person who asked me that pivotal question in 1995: have you thought about priesthood? Her question haunted me for months afterward, until I opened myself to the Lord, and the rest, as they say, is history. I still remember fondly the joy and giddiness with which she asked me that question that day. Years later, as a priest, I thanked her for her instrumental role in my vocation, and she did not even remember the incident.

My dear Sr. Fok, may you rest in peace, good and faithful servant of the Lord.

We send our prayers and sympathy to all the sisters, her family and friends. She will be missed very much by all of us. We know, however, the great gift she is and continues to be to us all. Thank you, Connie, for being a member of the Felician Sisters and giving us many memories.
We do not pray for you, Connie, we pray to you because you we know, you are watching over all of us everyday of our lives.
