February 29, 2024
Sheila May Day (Plamondon) – 1929 ~ 2024, age 94, passed away February 29, 2024, due to complications from respiratory disease, with her loving family by her side. Sheila was born in Cornwall, Ontario to Alexandre and Laura Plamondon. She moved to Montreal in the mid-1950s where she met Henry (Hank) Day, and they were married on August 17, 1957. At first, they lived in Longueuil where they welcomed Sandra May into the world. In the early 1960s Sheila and Hank moved to Roxboro where Laurie Karen was born, and Kevin Charles thereafter. In 1975, the family moved to Erin Mills and were introduced to St. Thomas à Beckett Anglican Church, where Sheila and Hank were parishioners until 1983, at which time they moved to Pickering. In 1999, Sheila and Hank moved back to Erin Mills and rejoined St. Thomas, and Sheila was a member until her passing.
Sheila dearly loved her family and friends, and certainly appreciated the rich and rewarding experiences of countless (precious) events and gatherings. Most recently, Mom/Nana and the family shared a wonderful Christmas party in December 2023, after she recovered from a serious case of pneumonia. So many fond memories, and so much love and joy shared… Sheila most especially loved to see her great-grandchildren laughing and playing.
Sheila is predeceased by her husband Hank, as well as her brothers Alexandre (Alec) and Joseph Gordon (Bud). Sheila is survived by her sister Iona Doherty, and her three children Sandra (Chris) Wood, Karen (John) Schrempf, and Kevin (Terry) Day. Sheila’s grand- and great-grandchildren are: Tyler (Kim) Wood with Hailey and Patrick, Laura (David) Bennett with William and Amelia, Caitlin Wood (Devon), Ryan (Taylor) Schrempf with Casey and Jackson, Scott Schrempf, and Katie (Mike) McMillan with Maggie and Caden. Sheila is also survived by her many nieces and nephews, so richly loved and appreciated.
Sheila was challenged with multiple medical issues in her senior years, which she confronted head-on with courage, strength, and pragmatism. She taught the family about her faith and strength and how it helped her to persevere. The family is so grateful for the wonderful care and compassion provided to Sheila, in particular: Dr. Debra Graham, Dr. Mary-Clair Yelovich and the entire team at Credit Valley Hospital, the care team from CBI and Heritage Glen, Bayshore Healthcare, and the wonderful staff at Extendicare Mississauga.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to either Scleroderma Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society. Please refer to the link above to make the donations on-line, thank you.
The family is holding a private celebration of remembrance on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Turner & Porter Funeral Home, at 1981 Dundas St W, Mississauga, ON.
