It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Sharon on January 3, 2026, at the age of 77. Sharon is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Robert “Greg” McClemont; her daughter, Laura (Glen Steacy); and her cherished grandson, Liam. She was predeceased by her parents, David and Norah McCallion, and her sisters, Kathryn and Janet. Sharon is also lovingly remembered by her siblings Marguerite (Bruce Buller), James (Jeannie Anderson), and Tom, as well as many nieces and nephews. A pillar of strength and wisdom within her family, Sharon will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

The second eldest of six children, Sharon was born in Providence, Rhode Island, while her father, David, was completing a post-doctoral fellowship at Brown University. The family later moved to Nova Scotia and eventually settled in Toronto. Sharon held many fond memories of her childhood in Wolfville and Rosedale. She met Greg in 1971, and they married in 1974, sharing over five decades of marriage marked by partnership, commitment, and shared adventures.

Sharon was a proud graduate of McMaster University and, after completing her Master’s degree, went on to a long and dedicated career in public service, working at Queen’s Park for decades. In retirement, she embraced long-distance running with remarkable determination, completing numerous half and full marathons. Among her proudest accomplishments was qualifying for and running the 2010 Boston Marathon at the age of 61.

Fiercely devoted to her family, Sharon was a constant source of encouragement and support throughout her daughter Laura’s academic and athletic pursuits. One of her proudest moments was watching Laura receive her PhD in 2019. Sharon shared an especially close bond with her grandson Liam, whom she lovingly described as “the light of my life.”

Sharon was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.

A memorial service to celebrate Sharon’s life will be held at a later date.
