In Celebration of

Sharon Alana (née Ryan) Drover

January 18, 1950 -  April 19, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce that Sharon passed away on 19 April 2023, following a ferocious battle with cancer. Left with beautiful memories of a beautiful lady are her devoted husband Gerry; beloved daughters Karen Lennox (Peter), Janet Brown (Hugo Berardeau), and Cathy O’Reilley (Deron); stepchildren Chris Drover and Leslie Field (Shawn); her adored grandchildren Oliver and Elspeth Lennox, Luca and Matias Berardeau, and Audrey and Isobel O’Reilley; step-grandchildren Zoe and Zachary Drover; siblings Kevin Ryan (Deanne), Michael Ryan (Lillian) and Elizabeth Piccott (Fraser); as well as a large and cherished extended family and circle of friends.

Sharon left her indelible mark on all whose lives she touched, from those she met as a child in St. John’s, Newfoundland to her community in Fairway Village, Florida. She had a zest for life and was ever ready for a celebration. She honoured the birthdays of her special ones, always starting their day with a song. If you told Sharon something in confidence, you could be certain it would be safe in her vault. Her signature warmth and humour were apparent to the very end, as she charmed even her doctors and nurses with her winks and smiles. Her family was of paramount importance to her. Spread from coast to coast, Sharon regularly zigzagged across Canada to divide her time with her favourite people. Her quick wit, apt use of aphorisms, competitive nature (yes, she was a shuffleboard champion), and luminous smile, will always be missed. The world will forever be less sparkly.

Cremation has taken place. Funeral service to be held at 1pm ( Newfoundland Time), on Friday, May 12th, 2023 at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist, St. John’s. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live streamed here: www.thebasilica.net/live

Private interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunnybrook Foundation, Champions of Care program, in honour of palliative care physician Dr. Debbie Selby, whose compassion and care brought comfort to Sharon and her family in her final days. www.donate.sunnybrook.ca/champions-of-care

Sharon and Gerry were very good friends and so supportive when Garnet was sick. Driving us to Toronto to Dr. appointments, visiting before and after operations took place. Sharon was so helpful, thoughtful and supportive, always there to help. So many memories, camping, trip to the Welland Canal, shopping almost driving into a tornado in Barrie. Sharon will be remembered by everyone who was fortunate enough to have met her. RIP my Dear Friend.♥️♥️♥️Peggy

Sharon always went out of her way to speak to me at parties and we spent a wonderful day at the flea market walking and chatting. Sharon had a beautiful smile, which she did often. We got to spend some time with them before the headed for home in November and Sharon was determined she would fight to the finish. She looked magnificent with her white hair peeking from under her bright pink turban, as elegant as always. Her parting hug was a hug to remember, fierce and sincere. Sharon will always be remembered.
