In Celebration of

Roy Stephen Lumley

July 7, 1964 -  July 4, 2024

Peacefully, surrounded by close family, Roy passed away at Toronto General Hospital
on the evening of Thursday, July 4, 2024, following major cardiac surgery, just a few
days short of his 60th birthday. Roy is survived by Alice, his wife of 21 years, and their
sons, Ethan and Andrew. Predeceased by his parents Stephen and Edith, Roy leaves
behind his loving brother Peter (Tanya).

Roy was born in Bishop Aukland, UK and moved to Montreal at the age of four. The
family relocated to Waterloo a number of years later where Roy attended Empire
Public School, KCI and finished his final year of high school at Trinity College School.
Roy attained his degree at Waterloo University and then trained as a Chartered
Accountant. Following this he moved to Bermuda where he lived for 13 years,
enjoying the island life while working in the insurance industry, before moving back
to Canada. It was in Bermuda that Roy met his wife, Alice, and his elder son, Ethan,
was born.

Roy was a good man who will be remembered by all who were lucky enough to know
him as a loving, supportive and kind husband, a doting father who was so proud of
his sons, and a loyal and dependable friend. His kindness, gentle humour and joy of
life will be hugely missed by all who knew him.

Friends may call at the Turner and Porter, Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St.,
Mississauga (Hwy 10 N. of Q.E.W) on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 2 - 3 p.m., until the

Roy was the best man at my parents wedding and had the kindest heart. My parents attended Roy's wedding in the UK and I had a blast at home.

I remember vividly the day I met Roy in Grade 3. He arrived in the classroom mid-year and at the first recess I took him under my wing. Little did I know that it was in fact Roy who would be taking me under his wing for the next decade. Over the years in primary and secondary school we had many adventures together...lots of laughs and I hope we learned many lessons from each other (mostly me from him I suspect). He was a great man indeed. Susan Callum and I send our love to Alice, Ethan and Andy.

Dear Alice, Ethan and Andrew,
I deeply treasured my friendship with Roy over the years. A friendship that time and distance could never change. And will carry on in all the memories we shared.
From Regina and me, we send our deepest, heartfelt sympathies to you to find strength and comfort in this difficult hour.
With all our thoughts and love,
Harald and Regina

Deepest condolences Alice to you and your boys, and his brother Peter and family.

It has been a life time of amazing memories having Roy as a friend and school mate. Met Roy for the first time in public school. I recall his house actually bordered Empire Public School. We had similar likes early on. Playing red rover in the school yard at recess, table tennis, pinball, and then golf to name a few.

Roy had a great sense of humour. Above all, he was always a gracious gentleman.

Lucky to have visited Roy in Bermuda with some other Empire clan. It must have been a tough decision to leave that gorgeous island. Roy was best man at my wedding in 1989 and we travelled to London for his wedding in 2003.

Rest in peace my friend. You will always be remembered.
