We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Rowan at the age of 15. Rowan was a gentle, happy soul who taught us so much in her short life. She loved toy cars, school buses, smooches from her Mummy, and endless silly games with her Daddy. She adored her nannies Tess, Jenny, and of course Maricar who took her on countless weekend adventures. Rowan loved her daily after school walk, pushing her buggy through the neighbourhood with waves and hellos from friends along the way. She loved swimming and floating in the water. She loved birthday parties with cake and presents. She loved to hold your hand.
If you were lucky enough to spend time with Rowan, your day got better. If you were really lucky and paying attention, she would teach you about living in the moment. Her intellectual disability didn’t stop her or diminish her endless optimism. The onset of epilepsy at age 9 brought huge struggles for Rowan, but it did not dim the sparkle in her eyes. Rowan dealt with her many medical issues with grace and dignity, facing each setback with remarkable resilience. She was absolutely adored by everyone who met her.
Her death leaves a huge hole in the hearts of her parents Malcolm and Heather, and her sisters Molly, Phoebe and Tiggy. She will be missed by her grandparents Scott and Caryl Rutledge, and Holly Rankin, and her many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.
The family will hold a private service for Rowan but encourage all to join us in a celebration of Rowan’s life at Lambton Golf & Country Club on Monday June 17, 2024 from 2-5 pm.
In Rowan’s memory, donations can be made to “The Rowan Fund” https://www.lights.to/therowanfund which supports independent living for people with intellectual disabilities.
