In Celebration of

Ross Stephen Armitage

October 28, 1927 -  February 2, 2025

Ross Stephen Armitage passed away peacefully at his home in Toronto, in his 98th year.

Ross was born on October 28, 1927 to Leslie (Army) and Vera Armitage in Toronto. He graduated secondary school from Humberside Collegiate, before going on to study Business at the University of Toronto.

On September 11, 1954, Ross married Elizabeth Mary Robertson. They put down roots in Etobicoke and went on to have five boys - Robert, Charles, Stephen, John, and David. Over the years, they made many good friends and spent time traveling, enjoying winters in Florida and summers at the cottage.

Upon graduation from university, Ross began his career at Simpsons-Sears where he held a range of corporate positions during his nearly 35-year tenure. After taking early retirement, he embarked on a new phase of his career, finding his true passion in real estate with Royal LePage, only officially retiring and closing his last deal after he turned 80.

Ross was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth and sons, John and Robert. He will be greatly missed by Chuck (Chris), Steve and Dave (Allison), as well as by his grandchildren - Jordan, Daniel, Evan, Jeremy, and Vivian.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, on Thursday, February 6th from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at All Saints Kingsway, 2850 Bloor Street West, on Friday, February 7th at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Dorothy Ley Hospice in Etobicoke.

Dear Armitage family:

Very sorry to hear of Ross’ passing on Sunday. Your family was very loved by our family. We enjoyed visits to the cottage and mom and dad enjoyed playing bridge with Ross and Liz. Dad and I enjoyed yearly steak BBQs at the old house during the men’s golf tournament.

We all shall miss the Armitages at All Saints! RIP Ross

I loved talking with Ross. He sat across from me in the 2842 Bloor St office and for some reason the 24 agents there were always in the office working . He was a bit of a mentor to me . .Always a smile on his face, a very positive personality and giving me very good and sound real estate advice .

My sincerest condolences to the Armitage family. He was a wonderful person .

Our greatest sympathies are extended to the Armitage Family,
We were introduced to Ross through our long term friend Bo Fleischman. My family (the Stewarts) had moved from Montreal to Toronto in 1960. Dad was a sales rep for Dominion Textiles. In conversation with Ross, we discovered that Dad has called on Ross during his first career at Simpson-Sears!
Bob was an accountant for Ross during his second career as real estate agent. I always enjoyed Ross’ annual visits to drop off his tax files and the ensuing friendly chats to catch up.
We visited Ross in Muskoka and had a tour of the family cottage, including the boathouse where Ross explained with delight the fun costumed performances that were provided for and by the family.
We found Ross to be a warm, genuine and kind gentleman who was always engaged and engaging.
With sadness for your loss,
Diane Stewart-Rose
Robert Rose
