In Celebration of

Rose O'Reilly (nee: Ryan)

December 12, 1940 -  June 11, 2023

Peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Sunday June 11, 2023 at the age of 82. Much loved wife of 52 years to Mike, mum to Katie (Rob), Michael, and Joanie (Guy), grandma to Jamie, Kelly, Oliver, Jude, Liam, and Alexandra. Predeceased by siblings Dick, Anne, Jimmy, Margaret, Mary, Hughie, Joe, survived by Mike (Erlinda), Cath (Dick), and Fran, she is also missed by nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws at home and overseas. Born in 1940 in Liverpool to James and Sarah (née Cregan), bombed out during the Blitz and brought up in Prescot, Rose was educated/terrorized by the nuns at Broughton Hall. She au paired for a summer in France, trained at Endsleigh College, and taught at St. Philomena's in Liverpool before emigrating with Cath in 1967 to Canada, where she made her home. She taught at St. Stephen and St. Vincent de Paul in Etobicoke, and was librarian at St. Basil in Mississauga until her retirement when she could happily spend most days taking her grandchildren to choose new books and little treats, making sure each one knew she loved them to bits. A nun once told her, in rehearsal for a school concert, to move her mouth but not sing but it’s impossible to imagine Grandma Rose not singing. “Going to the Garden to Eat Worms” will always remind us of her, as will the Final Jeopardy theme song, cryptic crosswords, a good murder mystery, and roast beef and Yorkshire pudding for Sunday dinner. What we wouldn’t give to hear her call us “À table!” one more time. She will always be in our hearts.
Cremation has taken place. Friends may call at Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga, on Tuesday, June 27 from 4-8 p.m. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 921 Flagship Dr., Mississauga, on Wednesday, June 28, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, she would have encouraged donations to World Vision.

We met only once but it was enough to know you were a wonderful mother/grandmother with a beautiful soul.
We will raise a glass to your wonderful life and promise to do the same each time we're enjoying your family's company.

How fortunate was I to be able to call her Mum. Not by birth, but because she treated me like one of her own. Mum, you will be forever missed, just as you are forever loved. You were so special in so many ways. The world was made a better place with you in it.
