In Celebration of

Rosario Barreto

July 17, 1940 -  July 18, 2024

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Rosario Barreto on July 18, 2024, at the age of 84 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Rosario was born in Salcete, Goa on July 17, 1940. The eldest son of the late Caetano and the late Joana Barreto, Rosario was a fun loving and doting son and caring older brother to Roque. Growing up, this close-kin family instilled in him the values of love, compassion, and hard work.

He later immigrated to Nairobi, Kenya where he completed his studies and worked at both Stratmore College and Agip. His love of photography grew into a business as a very popular wedding photograph. It was during this time, at his brother Roque’s wedding, he would meet and marry his love of 54 years, the late Maria.

Soon their family grew and, in 1969 with young Joana in tow, Rosario brought his family to Toronto. Here he achieved an almost three-decade employment with CIBC and grew his family by one more daughter, Judy.

Rosario and Maria never turned away those they knew were struggling. Their love and compassion for others were great examples of Christian faith and made them a beloved couple in the community. Their kindness spanned from providing shelter to friends in need, to assistance in finding employment. Rosario loved to entertain and always opened his doors for family and friends. He always put God and family first in his life. His loving spirit will be carried on by his children Joana (Abel), Judy (Troy) and five grandchildren, Jessica, Andrea, Mitchell, Logan, and Liana. Preceding him in peace was his wife, Maria.

Our thanks to the staff and caregivers at Silverthorne Care Community. In addition, a very special thank you to family and friends for their support during this time.
