In Celebration of

Roosevelt Wesley Wellon

August 9, 1934 -  May 4, 2024

Roosevelt Wesley Wellon passed away peacefully at Ian Anderson House, Oakville, on Saturday May 4, 2024, at the age of 89. Roosevelt was the son of the late Melina and Constable George Wellon. Born in Newfoundland, on August 8th, 1934, and resided in Ontario for almost 60 years.

Beloved husband to the late Patricia (Patsy) Wellon, married 49 years. Father to Fraser & Heather Wellon and Shirley & Steve Bowers. Brother to Oliver Wellon, Winston Wellon and predeceased by Wycliffe Wellon and Shirley Pike. Much loved ‘Papa’ to Holly (Marty), Kasey (Ryan), Maggie (Albert), Spencer (Kayla) and great-grand ‘Papa’ to Tilly, Pearl, Lily May, Harper, Molly, Winston and Charlie. Papa also joins his forever missed grandson Kyle in eternal rest.

Affectionately known as ‘Pat’, he was naturally gifted with artistic intelligence and used his talents throughout his life, well expressed in oil painting and charcoal portraits, having received instruction by the same mentor to the famous Group of Seven. As a young man he loved his motorcycle and skiing. He also had a passion for dance and became a professional instructor, which led him to meet his wife Patsy, as his ballroom student. They were married on June 22, 1955, at Corpus Christi Church in St. John’s. Years later, their young family moved to Etobicoke, Ontario, where Pat worked at CN Rail until retirement, starting as a ticket salesman and working his way up to accounting. Pat and Patsy later moved to Mississauga, followed by Huntsville where they enjoyed the quiet life on Mirage Lake and looked forward to visits from family at ‘the cottage’. They often came to town to spend time with their grandchildren, some who enjoyed precious ‘Papa Day’s’ off school to create loving memories together. Later in life he was often known to volunteer at local nursing homes keeping the company of their residents and crafting custom portraits. His legacy lives on with the heirloom of his artistic talents that have been gifted to generations that follow.

He loved his charcoal pencils and pastels, a great cup of coffee, puttering around Canadian Tire or Curry’s art store, current events & politics, CP24 and a nice hot meal at Swiss Chalet. He loved to talk about his adventures and always had a new story to tell. Although at times he was known to have a stubborn way, he would always express his true feelings within his warming tight hugs. His day was always brightened by phone chats, visits and time with family.

Papa, you will always be a loving memory that we will carry forever in our hearts.

The family wishes to thank to the compassionate and gentle staff of Ian Anderson House for their exceptional care.

Cremation to precede a private Celebration of Life.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to Ian Anderson House Hospice.

Shirley & Fraser, ( and family),
So so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing.
It’s a hard ,sad part of life for sure. I sure will miss Uncle Roosevelt’s phone calls. In mom’s (Shirley’s) last yr of life and for months after she passed away, your Dad was one of my only connections to the family. He would call me regularly & start with “ Kathy, how are you doing? How are you coping?” We had so many chats and yes there was often repeated stories on his end but I didn’t mind. It meant a lot to me and something I will cherish as a good memory of him. He often shared how proud he was of his family and grandchildren. He spoke with pride, admiration and love for your families and accomplishments.
I know you have cherished memories of him as well and I pray those are the only ones that you hold dear in your hearts for years to come. I will be thinking and praying for you during this difficult time. Wish I was there to give ya a hug…. So I’ll send it via text….
Love and hugs….. Kathy Mollins

So sorry to hear of Uncle Pat’s passing. Such great memories living with Uncle Pat and Aunt Patsy when we first moved to Toronto. Loved spending time at the cabin with them. I still have one of his famous charcoal portraits, which I will cherish. ❤️
