In Celebration of

Ronaldo Villanueva Olay

March 27, 1934 -  January 27, 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ronaldo Villanueva Olay, at the age of eighty-eight.

Beloved husband to the late Elsa Olay, Ronaldo will be sorely missed by his devoted children Roel (Nini) and Lisa (Erik), and the grandchildren he loved: Simone, Russell, Nolan, Liem, Rowan, and Benjamin. Cherished brother to Leticia and the late Rosemay; brother-in-law, cousin, uncle and friend to too many to mention.

Born in the town of Altavas in Aklan province, Philippines, Ronaldo immigrated to Canada in 1965. An Electrical Engineering graduate of Feati University, he had a fulfilling career working for such companies as Falconbridge, Ebasco, and SNC-Lavalin.

A devoted booster of his new home in Toronto, Ronaldo never lost sight of where he came from. A charter member of both the United Aklanon Association of Toronto and the Featinian Association of Toronto, he served the local Filipino community throughout his many years of support and leadership.

But his greatest joy was the family that sustained him. There was always music playing for them in Ronaldo’s house, and always laughter. He watched over all of them and protected them fiercely.

Deepest gratitude to the staff at St Joseph’s Health Centre who treated Ronaldo with care and kindness during his final days.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of Jane subway. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, February 2nd. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gregory's Roman Catholic Church, 122 Rathburn Road (at Kipling) on Friday, February 3, at 11 a.m. Interment at Park Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Elsa Olay Giving Foundation, account #PGF7010822, Private Giving Foundation 857210744 RR0001.

Dear Roel and family, very sorry to hear about your loss. I have still vivid memories of your dad at various Choir School events so many years ago; it was clear he was so proud of his family. Thinking of you in this time of sadness.

Although we couldn’t see Ron often, we will miss his presence when we visit. He was a kind and loving man who adored his family and put them first in his life. Rest in peace, Ron.
