Ronald Frank U'ran

December 1, 1938 -  December 15, 2023

Ronald passed away on December 15, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, at the age of 85. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Judy, and by his children Trina, Jason (Shey) and Justin (Carol). Ron will be missed by his treasured grandchildren Paige, London, Ethan and Aiden. They were the apple of his eye. Ron was the brother of Frank (Ginny), Martin, Paul (Sandy) and the late Robert. Ron will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ron was the founding owner of Horizon Insurance Brokers Limited, proudly running it for thirty years. He had a love of music and was able to play saxophone and clarinet in a number of polka bands. Ron also played clarinet in the Ukrainian Youth Marching band. His love of music led him to join the choirs at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church and at St. Gregory’s Church.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke on Tuesday from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church, 5255 Thornwood Dr. , Mississauga, on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.

Please accept my condolences. I'm also sorry that I am unable to attend; there are limited flights out of Bermuda these days and an Expedia search showed NO flights from Bermuda to Toronto for Dec. 19th, meaning that all flights out of Bermuda to any gateway (New York, Boston, Miami, Atlanta) are sold out. WestJet isn't flying here right now, and Air Canada only flies on Saturdays and Thursdays.

That said, Uncle Ronnie was like a second father to myself and Veronica. When we were kids, sometimes we’d be in his car. (He was driving…). He would grip the wheel with both hands, lean towards it, and make “racing car” noises. Somehow, he became “Puncle Salami” and the car, the “Salami-mobile”. Veronica and I would egg him on. He was really great with us.

In 1967, there was the Expo in Montreal. Mom and Dad went. As Trina was not around then, Uncle Ronnie and Aunt Judy came and stayed at the house to look after the 3 of us.

Then, there were the weekly Friday night visits. He would throw the door open, and yell, “Hellooooooo”. Scared the snoogies out of Natalie, his God daughter. There's a slide of Natalie on his lap; that was the first time she came to him. He looks petrified.

I have many fond memories of our families together. As I grew, we had many good conversations; he always called it as he saw it and gave me a perspective to consider.

Although distance (and an ocean) has made visiting rather difficult, both he and Aunt Judy are often in my thoughts. Sadly, this is the end of an era and a chapter in my life.

For my part, I'm sad to know that he's no longer there. He was ALWAYS there...

Love,

Derek

Judy
It's been a long time since we saw each other. I'm so sorry to hear about Ron's passing and hope you and your family are doing well. I've thought about you over the years and wondered how you and our Holland Marsh friends were doing.
All the best.

My sincerest condolences to the U'Ran family.

Back in the later '40's and early '50's, I was taught to play the alto sax by Frank U'Ran. The location was in a music store on Bay Street Toronto. I was 16 at the time. Frank U'Ran went on to teach music in schools under the auspices of the Ontario Board of Education. Frank U'Ran was a superb teacher, and mentor. Am I correct in believing that my sax teacher was a member of Ronald's family?

When I see the photo of Ronald, it's almost like seeing Frank U'Ran again and the memorable moments I treasure today of my early association in music with Frank U'Ran.
