In Celebration of

Roman Borecky

August 6, 1928 -  September 25, 2025

Roman Borecky's soul left this earth suddenly on Thursday September 25th. Although he was blessed with a strong zest for life, his heart could not keep beating after many years of congestive heart failure. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Eugenia (Sokolowska), daughters Irene, Leslie, and Luba O'Brien (Nicholas), and great grand children Jhalen and Alexis. He was preceded in death by his cherished grand daughter Shona (2022).

Roman was born on August 6, 1928 in Ternopil Ukraine. He found himself in a displaced persons camp in Germany as a young teen, and sailed to Canada. He married, raised a family, and worked for over four decades for Simpsons/HBC.

Roman was a devout Ukrainian Catholic, spending much of his time in church. He was proud to sing in the church choir. In his last few years he religiously watched services on YouTube from both Toronto and Ukraine. He also devoted his time to watching soccer and hockey, but any sport would entertain him. He had a wonderful sense of humor, telling stories in his special way, and enjoyed funny animal videos. He will be truly missed and always remember by all who loved him.

I have posted a formal picture of my dad at 30 years of age. I could not find one suitable in his later years. However I think my dad would have approved of this choice. When he was asked about his age, he always said 27 and 3/4, until he retired. Let's remember him as FOREVER YOUNG.

I’ve known Roman and Genya all my life. She always took care of me and they both baby sat me all the time when I was younger. I loved them both. I will truly miss him and may he rest in peace.

Sorry for your loss.
Roman and his lovely wife were regular customers at McDonald's where my late Father Peter would go everyday before COVID for coffee and conversations.
Hope they reunit in heaven for a coffee, conversation and a laugh.
Rest in Peace

My condolences to Roman's entire family on his passing. Roman, my late husband, Bohdan, and a group of Ukrainian male friends would gather at two tables in the Food Court of Cloverdale Mall almost daily. A fairly loud discussion of Ukrainian politics was discussed as each voiced his opinion. Those days were thoroughly enjoyed by all, especially Roman's sense of humor and the perpetual smile on his face and glint in his eyes. ВІЧНАЯ ПАМ'ЯТЬ. 🙏🇺🇦🙏
