Roma Zarycky passed away peacefully on April 27, 2019 in her 93rd year. Roma was predeceased by her husband Stefan. Beloved mother of Jerry (Ann) and the late Alex. Loving sister of Eugene Kostruba and Jerry Kostruba (Ivanka) and the late Petronela Semeniuk, the late Ivanka Tymkiw and the late Marian Kostruba, Cherished grandmother of Lilianna Zarycky.

Roma was born in Kniaze, Ukraine and came to Canada as a young woman along with much of her family. She married Stefan Zarycky in Toronto and was a devoted mother who brought up her two children with much love and affection. Roma was very close to her siblings and the entire extended family often had Sunday dinners together with their mother at the head of the table. Many great discussions about life, religion and world affairs were had at that time!

Roma was an excellent student, at the top of her class and was always willing to help others succeed. She was academically blessed, had a gift for art and a lovely singing voice too; there wasn’t anything that she couldn’t do well. Roma had a thirst for knowledge and was a life-long learner; she received her Ukrainian high school teaching certificate after her own children were well into their own schooling. She was a faithful member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, attending Mass every Sunday as long as she was physically able. Along with her husband, she was a vibrant member and enjoyed participating in the Ukrainian community in the GTA. All of her family and friends will dearly miss her.
