It is with sad and heavy heart I say goodbye to my husband and best friend of nearly 40 years.
Roger and I shared the same birth date as well as many of the same values and ideas, we enjoyed many of the same things and were comfortable in each other’s company, we usually did not want to do things unless it was together.
Roger was born in Barrie, but grew up in Stayner, playing football in high school and collecting garbage in Wasaga Beach. Roger was friends with Alan and Russell Mathers, their family owned the Stayner funeral home. Roger known as Tim back then, followed Russell to Toronto, where he graduated from the Canadian School of Embalming, class of 1968, and joined the Turner and Porter Funeral Home family. He remained with T&P for all of his working career, taking part in their baseball team and guide dog walks at high park. I believe he was well liked and respected by Doug Porter and his co-workers, especially the females in later years.
Roger was diagnosed with cancer in 1982, he went through 2 years of treatments before getting a clean bill of health. During this time we got married and bought a house and a few years later we adopted 2 children. Roger loved doing things with the kids and attending their events. He also loved camping and visits to my sister and brother in law's cottage, hoping to see some wild life or catch a few fish.
Over the years Roger had more health issues, he decided to retire at age 60, but his health continued to deteriorate, he spent the last year of his life in Trillium Health Partners Mississauga Hospital (ICU & 5J) and Moir Family Complex Care Center in Trillium Queensway Site. I would like to thank all of the Doctors, Nurses and other staff that took such good care of him. Roger always had quite a sense of humor and a way with words, during his final days many of his nurses said they would miss him because of this. Donations to Trillium Health Partners would be appreciated.
Roger was predeceased by his father Maxwell, his mother Ivy and his younger brother Kenneth.
He has said goodbye to his wife Betty Jean (Hunt), his daughter Cassandra, his grandchildren Jayden and Naomi, his son Richard and his family.
Roger has left behind his sister Arlene, his brother David, wife Carol, their children, Joshua wife Kate,(their children Caleb and Ivy), Erhan, Sean, Emily (son Hudson), sister in law Jane, her children Ben, Sarah husband Martin,( their children Kennedy and Thomas).
He also leaves behind his sister in law Rose (husband Bill deceased) their children Tracey husband Warren (their children Avery and Lilly), Michael his wife Annalies (their children Makaela and Maggie), his brother in law Nick (wife Jayne deceased) their children Shawn and Daniel, and his brother in law Jim, friend Juan.
