In Celebration of

Robert Gordon Emmett

March 15, 1928 -  February 12, 2021

After a long life of duty & devotion to family, characterized by charm and wit delivered with a disarming smile and a twinkle in his eye, Bob reluctantly took his final leave of loving son Richard and daughter-in-law Jeannette (nee) Groulx; their four children Shannon (James Johnston), Cassandra (Mike), Ashley (Mike Dick) and Brendan (Julie): daughter-in-law Nancy (nee) Canapini and her daughter Hailey (Billy); his niece Nancy (nee) Welsh (Reese Muise), and great-grandchildren Henry & Emily Johnston and Louis Dick. He had been pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Thelma Margaret (nee) Baxter, and his sons Russell Baxter and Robert Edward.

The only son of Gordon Neve Emmett and Marjorie Grace Beesley, Bob’s modest conservative style was shaped by a Depression childhood and WW2 rationing during his teenaged high school years, where he played Etobicoke Junior B hockey goalie in winter and baseball outfield in summer. Retiring after a 47 year career at Canadian Pacific Express & Smith Transport, his careful, private finances & bookkeeping were both vocation and hobby. Throughout many decades, he enjoyed the company of the Runnymede United Church ‘Dirty Dozen’ for travels and adventures.

His memorial lives in the loving thoughts and deeds of those who knew him best.

Private family interment service at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens in Oakville. Due to COVID, a Celebration of Life will be scheduled sometime in the future.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society are appreciated.

"Mr E" was certainly one of the most charming and witty people you could ever know, a true gentleman with a kind soul and a most wonderful sense of humour. Always ready with strong parental wisdom such as "Russell, don't prang up the car" and always the first to dip surreptitiously into dessert, when everyone else's backs were turned, placing him firmly in the denial camp with an innocent face, while crumbs hung from his unconcealed grin. Mr & Mrs E were the most lovely and loving couple, welcoming to all and supportive of everyone with their kindness, care and open hearts. The world was a better place for Bob's having been here and we who knew him count our lucky stars that we did. He was a very special person and he will be missed but good memories will live on. Sincere and deepest condolences to Rik, Jeannette and the whole Emmett family.

Hilarious, naughty, quick-witted, deeply caring, polite, gracious and loving was this one-in-six-billion gentleman. I will miss you Bob. Well done family, for the consistent, loving care in all areas of his long and productive life.
With love and great respect, Michelle.
