It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Albert Cosburn in his 81st year at Humber River Hospital on June 11, 2019. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Carole (nee Thompson) for 56 years. Loving father of Stephen (Marla), Gordon (Stephanie), Philip (Rose), Richard (Susan), Caroline (Brent Chaters) and Catherine (Jeffrey Savage). Proud grandfather to William, Courtney, Lauren, Paul, Alexandra, Madison, Charlie, Molly, Charlotte, Victoria and Ethan. Richard leaves behind his sisters Margaret Walker and Jacqueline Millward and brother-in-law James Thompson (Linda). Richard (John) will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by Brian (Lorie), Karen (Gary), Marianne, Christine (Nolan), Sarah, Katherine, Hugh (Georgia) and Neil.
Richard was a practicing Chartered Accountant who, in 1963, initiated his career as an auditor. He ventured into the securities brokerage and clearing world beginning in 1969, ultimately attaining the Presidency role at one of Canada Trust’s Brokerage Subsidiaries. Richard was well respected within the financial community and is still fondly remembered by many of his past employees.
Richard was very involved in the Mighty 4th Scouting program as Akela's (Gloria Partlow) Camping Chairman for ten years. He also attended many overnight camps with his four sons. Richard was active in the minor hockey community with both the Royal York Rangers and West Mall Wolves Associations as a volunteer coach. After his coaching career ended, Richard drove countless hours supporting his sons to their games and his dedication and love for hockey was rekindled with his grandson, William. In addition to supporting his sons, Richard found time to be there for his daughters by taking them to ballet, piano, and dancing recitals, choir performances, concerts and badminton tournaments.
In 1984, Richard and Carole purchased their slice of heaven, a Georgian Bay beach front cottage in Tiny Township. Memorable, cherished family experiences with his own children and eventually his grandchildren were shared on the beach and in the snow. Their cottage has turned into a hub for family gatherings throughout the years which has pleased Richard immensely. He loved sitting back, proudly watching his family enjoying the good times.
Richard enjoyed his retirement years by travelling with Carole to destinations all around the world. He has been a charter member of The Kingsway/Islington Probus Club since 2007. Richard became the president of this club in 2014-15 and has been the active treasurer since late 2017.
The visitations will be at Turner and Porter (4933 Dundas St. W., Etobicoke) on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
