In Celebration of

Reverend David Alan Julien

October 8, 1950 -  January 3, 2020

An extraordinary and wonderful man. Treasured husband of Lynnell (née Fennema) and cherished father to Hanna (James), Gwendolyn (Joe), and Brianna (Matt). Well-loved, fun-loving grandpa to Aidan, Michaela, the late Liam, Ariel, Ahalya, Finn, Nathan, Benjamin, Peter, and Elizabeth. Dear son of Jack and the late Delsie and son-in-law of the late George and Wilma (Fennema). Beloved brother to John (Shelly), Philip (Kay), Laura (Kevin), and Jan. Cherished brother in-law and uncle to all our families. Dearly loved by close friend, former business partner, and fellow priest, Judith, and many other cherished friends. Music copyist, string instrument technician, singer, composer, horn player, and guitarist - music was David’s lifelong joy. A professional chorister, David sang with many wonderful choirs, including Exultate Chamber Singers, Deer Park United Church, Stuyvesant Singers, and Toronto Chamber Society. He was the Ontario Regional Director of the Canadian Music Centre (1983-1989) and the Executive Director of the International Year of Canadian Music (1985-87); Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Children’s Opera Chorus from 1984 – 1988 and active parent for decades. Entrepreneur extraordinaire, David founded Novater Artists and Novadisc Music in 1988-2000. David answered the call to ministry in 2002 and became the unstoppable Father David who passionately loved and cared for all those in his care and beyond. David was a technology genius. He created complex systems to compose, record, and create - nothing was impossible. No church sound system was beyond his ability. David loved the outdoors having grown up in the foothills of the Sierras. Favourite activities were spending time with his grandchildren, reading aloud, playing croquet, camping, swimming, traveling, road trips, and horseback riding. David could fix anything and was a builder of ideas, things, and people. He is irreplaceable and will be profoundly and deeply missed. We will love you forever.

Memorial visitation will be held at St. John’s York Mills Anglican Church, 19 Don Ridge Dr., Toronto, on Monday January, 13, 2020 from 1-5 and 6:30 - 9 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the church on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 1 p.m. For those who wish, donations in David’s memory in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice Simcoe, Covenant House Toronto, or the David Busby Centre Barrie

In memory of my visit to St. Bede in 2016. Our communication was pleasant, even if I didn't care for the style of service. LOL. Rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of singing with David many years ago at Deer Park United Church and with the Exultate Chamber Singers, and remember Lynnell and the girls, who were quite young, but growing up quickly. Very sad news.
