In Celebration of

Publius "Paul" Sciberras

July 13, 1932 -  February 6, 2021

With saddened hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Paul Sciberras at his retirement home on February 6th, 2021 at the age of 88.
Paul was a loving husband to his beloved late wife Lucy (nee Camilleri). Son of the late Vincent and Rosaria Sciberras. Loving and devoted father to his children; Rosemarie (Ron), Michael (Angela), Catherine (Stephen), Theresa (François). Proud Nunnu to his six grandchildren; Rachel (Daniel), Jonathan, Sean, Andrew, Olivia, and Elizabeth.
Born in Birkirkara, Malta, Paul immigrated to Canada at the age of 19, sailed on the S.S. Argentina, and landed in Halifax in August 1951. Paul spent his earlier years in the Junction (Toronto) where he met Lucy, the love of his life, and was welcomed into the Camilleri family. Paul and Lucy started a new venture as proprietors of a variety store and diner (Mutual Cigar Store), in the Junction up until 1964, when he moved his family to Etobicoke.
Paul’s love of soccer led him to coaching the Martingrove Rep team in Etobicoke, where his 1973 Pee-Wee team won the Metro Cup and were finalists in the Ontario Cup the same year. His love of nature led to his hobby of raising and showing fancy guppies, and then later breeding canaries; always proud to show them off to his nieces and nephews who came to visit. He later extended his fascination with nature to a backyard pond, which he built with pride. Paul was a devout Catholic, volunteering as a “senior” altar server and gardener at his parish – Transfiguration of our Lord Church.
Paul bravely battled Dementia and Alzheimer’s for the past 16 years.
Paul’s favourite charity was Operation Smile Canada. In lieu of flowers, donations to Operation Smile Canada or the Alzheimer Society would honour Paul.
A special thank you to the caring and compassionate staff at Bough Beeches Place Retirement Home and the palliative care team at LHIN. Paul lived at Bough Beeches Place for almost 11 years. He was a colourful character with his many hats, enjoyed all the music and entertainment activities, and would often be found dancing and singing.
Dad/Nunnu, we will miss you dearly and you will be forever in our hearts.

It is with a saddened heart that we sit here this evening to write in the guestbook of our beloved uncle. I hold so many fond memories of our times spent together back in the "good 'ol days". I recall the plethora of canaries in his basement bird sanctuary, followed by the garden pond full of gold fish. I recall the pristine gardens he tended to alongside our dear Aunt Lucy. I recall receiving my first "paid" macrame plant hanger order, from dear Uncle Paul. He wanted one made in orange. He was ahead of his time when it came to making a fashion statement. He could have taught Versace a thing or two about style as he always sported a fashionable hat at every family event.

It is with all these memories, that makes it hard to say goodbye. But peace comes to our hearts knowing that every action you performed, you did so with the intent to serve your Lord.
May you rest in the palm of the Lord's hands.

With Love until we meet again,
Christine, Steve and family
