In Celebration of

Phyllis Marjory Jackson

April 17, 1927 -  June 2, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis/Mom/Grandma on June 2, 2024. Loving wife of the late Ernest (Ern) (1972), Phyllis will be deeply missed by her daughter Susan and son Lee (Janet) as well as grandchildren Benjamin, Nathan (Karine), Nicholas (Dayna), Grant, Paige, Brandon and Noah. Phyllis is predeceased by her daughter Jane (2009).

Phyllis was the 2nd of 8 daughters of LaVerne and Myrtle Tanner and was born outside Petrolia on the family farm. She was the third eldest in a family of 12 children. After several transfers for Ern’s work, with his passing, Phyllis found herself back in London, ON with 3 young children. Eventually, she found work as an executive assistant at the Ivy Business School, Western University, where she remained for 22 years. Along the way, Phyllis discovered a love for bridge, a game she became passionate about. As well, over the years she took night school courses in gourmet cooking, accounting, quilting, calligraphy and others that captured her interest. Quilting and calligraphy benefitted from her meticulous attention to detail and soft hand. She enjoyed travelling to lands near and far, whether with Susan or “The Sisters”, and they were much looked forward to. Phyllis always looked forward to spending time each summer at the family cottage on the North Channel which provided much needed rest and relaxation.

A memorial service to celebrate Phyllis’ life will be held at Royal York Road United Church, 851 Royal York Road, Etobicoke, ON, 416-231-9401 on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 1 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Turner & Porter (Yorke Chapel), Toronto.

In lieu of flowers, for whose who wish, expressions of sympathy would be appreciated to the Toronto Star Children’s Charities (charities.thestar.com). Online condolences can be sent to Phyllis’ family by visiting her memorial at www.turnerporter.ca.
