In Celebration of

Phyllis Evadne Nethersole

October 18, 1936 -  April 7, 2025

It is with great sadness that the family of Phyllis Evadne Nethersole announces her passing on Monday, April 7, 2025. She died peacefully in her home with her daughter Taynia, son Kurt and daughter-in-law Renee by her side.

Phyllis was born in Kingston, Jamaica – the only girl of seven children born to Errol and Beryl Godfrey. In 1954 she met Leslie Allan Nethersole whom she married in 1959. They had two children: Taynia, born in 1960 and Kurt, born in 1963.

In 1967, the family emigrated to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Phyllis loved to recount that she got a job before her husband as she joined Marsh & McLennan Insurance where she worked in various underwriting positions and was a valued and respected Underwriter until her retirement in 1997.

Leslie and Phyllis were married for 65 years. Their marriage was a true and loving partnership, and they very rarely spent time apart. They retired in 1997 and spent the next 28 years enjoying retirement; travelling extensively, spending at least two months in Jamaica, the land of their birth.

Phyllis was devoted to her family; her children, grandchildren Julia, Matthew, Hayley and Angela; brothers and brothers-in-law and their families. No visit could be planned to Jamaica without a bit of shopping being done to purchase gifts, especially for new members of the family. Phyllis was loved by all. She developed friendships with her children’s friends and loved to be a part of all social engagements. She loved her trips to the casino, her card nights and a nice party which had to include the playing of the Electric Slide!

Her beloved Leslie passed away in November, 2024. Life was definitely not the same. Confronted with serious illness she decided that it was her time. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of her loved ones; a true testament to a life well lived.
