In Celebration of

Peter Dawson

July 12, 1938 -  May 13, 2019

Dawson, Peter John Logan
It is with profound sadness that the family of Peter John Logan Dawson announces his passing on May 13, 2019 in his 81st year. Peter will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 58 years, Jan, and his children, Laurie (Bob), and Gavin (Lisa). Forever remembered by his four grandchildren, Amy (Mike), Cobey, Mack, and Bennet. Peter saw the 4th generation of his clan with the births of his twin great-grandchildren, Logan and Troy, this past year.

Peter was born in Nottingham, England, to Tom and Nancy (nee Chalmers). He spent much of his first 17 years with older brother Nick and younger brother Ian in Billesdon, a small village in the Leicestershire countryside. After immigrating to Toronto, Canada, in 1955, Peter immediately began his almost 40 year Toronto Star career where he met Jan. After moving to the Clarkson area in 1964 with toddlers in tow, they together built a family and helped forge a community for the next 55 years.

A man of such great character, Peter – Dad – Poppy, leaves behind a legacy of character building for all those who were fortunate to know him. The measure of this was evidenced not just by those who knew him greatly, his family and friends, but equally by those who met him for but a moment in time, the grocery clerk, the bellhop, and the Tim Horton’s server.

Friends may call at Turner & Porter Neweduk-Erin Mills Chapel, 1981 Dundas Street W, Mississauga, on Wednesday, May 22, from 5pm to 8pm. A celebration of life will be held in the Chapel on Thursday, May 23, at 3pm with reception to follow.

Memorial donations in Peter’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) 55 St Clair Avenue West, Suite 500, Toronto, ON M4V 1N5 or to the Alzheimer Society of Canada (www.alzheimer.ca) 20 Eglinton Avenue West, 16th Floor, Toronto, ON M4R 1K8.

Dear Jan & Family:
With deepest sympathy to you and your family in the loss of Peter. I have had the wonderful opportunity to connect with him through work and social activities while at the Toronto Star. . His kindness, gentleness, and thoughtfulness are some of his many attributes. May you experience the love of Jesus as you are being upheld in prayer during this difficult time.

I was so fortunate to work for Peter through the eighties and part of the nineties as his Secretary. Actually enjoyed coming in to the office every day. He was so easy to work for. He was such a kind and gentle person who knew exactly how to treat people with such kindness and understanding. I don't remember ever hearing him get upset with anyone. He was so easy to talk to and that is why, I would say everyone respected him and felt at ease whenever they asked for his invaluable assistance. Peter was the go to person at The Star. My husband Angelo and I will never forget him. R.I.P my friend, you will never ever be forgotten

My heartfelt condolences to Jan, Lori, Gavin and the entire Dawson family.

I will always remember your Dad with such fondness as he was a wonderful kind man.
I will cherish the memories when the Dawson’s and the Morin’s would spend New Years Eve together having our Chinese food dinner before the clock struck 12. I kept in touch with him over the years on Facebook and I will truly miss our chats. I hope you and my parents will reconnect and share the same laughs you did here on Earth. R.I.P Peter I will miss you dearly.
