In Celebration of

Paul "Bubs" O'Flaherty

February 5, 1959 -  October 28, 2020

O'Flaherty, Paul Edward Cyril peacefully in his 62nd year at Eatonville Care Centre on October 28th 2020. Number nine was born in 1959 to John "Peanuts" O'Flaherty and Catherine DeLory. Paul-Eddie, their special son kept his parents young, humble and strong. Bubba/Bubs was a happy, content child and man who could light up a room with his joyous smile. He was a great music lover who enjoyed rockin' to Elvis, Del Shannon and Sha Na Na. He was also partial to a good ‘ol country tune! Long-time worker at ETS Etobicoke, Special Olympian (floor hockey, softball), bowler and notorious eater who enjoyed a Big Mac and fries like no other. He was cherished by his siblings, Pat and Ian, Sharon, John and Sheila, Bill and Patti, Gerry and Mary, Michael and Diana, Terence, Maryanne and Todd. He will be deeply and sorrowfully missed by his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, his uncle Val DeLory and numerous cousins. He is now enjoying tea and toast (with loads of jam) with Kay and John. He's happy. He's very happy!
The O’Flaherty clan is eternally grateful to the wonderful caring staff and volunteers of the 5th floor at ECC especially Rechelle, Anna, and Branka. Many thanks to the dedicated staff at ETS who provided Paul a home away from home for so many years.
Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions only a private family service can take place. If desired contributions may be made to Community Living or a charity of your choice.

I had the honour of working with Paul at Community Living Toronto, in his day program. I will forever remember him loving music so much that he would become emotional! He used to carry a drumstick and when a song came on he connected with, he would become a rockstar! And sad songs made him cry.
Paul was such a beautiful soul. Everyone loved him.
My deepest condolences to his family. Heaven most definitely gained a new angel.

The Budge Family

All of us in the Budge family, across the street on Hampshire Heights, are heartbroken. We all have many fond memories of Paul, who spent almost as much time around our house as my brother Jim and I did at John and Kay's! (I'm posting a photo of Bubs helping Jim mow the back lawn, probably 1964!) My mom & dad had a big soft spot for Paul, and I think we kids all learned an important lesson from that, as we did from the way all the O'Flahertys were with him. Like my sister Judy said, he "made us all better people." So glad he's in a better place. Love
Dave Budge (and Jim, Judy, Pat & Donna)

This summer, Michael and I were playing golf and I was remembering Paul. I often think of the memories we had especially when we played road hockey outside the O'Flaherty home. When Paul played with us hacking and slashing, like the rest of the O'Flaherys but nothing gave us greater happiness when Paul scored he would raise his hockey stick and we knew the game was over. Now I know he is going to meet John and Kay again.
Fond memories. Rick Miller
