In Celebration of

Paul Mertes

March 25, 1958 -  June 8, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul Mertes, beloved husband of Linda, and father of William and Liisa, who passed away suddenly on June 8 in Mississauga, Ontario.

Born in Sault Ste. Marie on March 25, 1958, Paul was the cherished child of Joyce and Bernerd Mertes. He will be deeply missed by his brother Ted (Marian), sister-in-law Carol (Dan), nephews Michael, David, Christopher and niece Jennifer, and their families.

Paul will be forever remembered by his friends who were touched by his kindness, compassion, and love. He had a natural ability to connect with people, making friends wherever he went, and he cherished those friendships deeply.

Paul was the CEO and strategic leader of CircuitMeter Inc., driving its innovation and growth within the energy and technology sectors. With his dedication to environmental sustainability, he was deeply respected in the community and inspired those who worked with him. In addition to his career, he enjoyed spending his free time in nature and appreciated the peace and beauty he found in it.

Paul always had a special connection to music. From playing the piano, to attending concerts, to curating playlists for the golf course – He had the remarkable ability to always create the perfect atmosphere for his family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 15 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at Turner & Porter, 2180 Hurontario St, Mississauga, Ontario. A second visitation will be held on Monday, June 16 from 2:00 – 3:00 pm, directly followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm.

Though we will miss Paul dearly, we are grateful for the time we had with him and the memories that we will forever hold close to our hearts. He is so loved by his wife Linda, children William and Liisa, and Marlow, his border collie “barbeque buddy”.

Those wishing to honour Paul’s memory may do so through a donation to Ecojustice or the David Suzuki Foundation, supporting environmental sustainability and climate action—causes close to his heart. Links to both charities can be found below.

We are saddened to learn of Paul Mertes' passing. Paul was a brilliant mind, and dynamic force in the GreenTech and CleanTech space sector. JA first met Paul working on the advisory board when he championed the VXCanada 2011 CleanTech Industry Conference in Toronto. There are few people we know as passionate and dedicated to environmental sustainability and a healthier planet for future generations, than (was) Paul. We send caring thoughts and condolences to Paul's wife and children, and extended family and friends.

I had the pleasure of playing golf on the weekend with Paul. He treated me like one of the boys as I was the only girl that time of morning. Some great memories that I will cherish. Now you can golf till your heart’s content but boy will we miss you down here!
