In Celebration of

Captain Patrick Ormonde Cudahy

September 3, 1966 -  November 23, 2024

At the tender age of 58, Patrick Ormonde Cudahy slipped from our grasp and made his final flight. He left a coterie of family and friends, who each in their own way, will mourn the loss of a very unique individual. He passed away November 23, 2024 at Sunnybrook Hospital due to heart failure. Proud father of Karina of Kingston, Ontario. Much loved son of Denis and Claudia. Dear brother of Paul (Gina-Ann) and sister Micheline (Murray). Fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and former wife Carolina.

Patrick was born in Halifax in Sept 1966. As a result of his father’s career, he also lived in Montreal, Winnipeg and Ottawa. Studies at Centennial College took him to Toronto where he graduated as an Aircraft Maintenance Technician in 1989.

His life long passion was flying, starting with his love of planes at a very early age. With focused dedication, he earned his Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license and started his aviation career with First Air as an AME in the arctic and later as a Flight Engineer on the Boeing 727. Patrick went on to work for Air Transat and eventually achieved Captain status, flying with Air Transat for 28 years. Patrick was passionate about learning and devoured books and information to educate himself. He was fiercely opinionated about all that he learned, including cooking and politics and maximized his flight pairings by exploring the foreign countries where work took him. Patrick was a sharp dresser and purchased the latest fashions during his many overseas trips. Patrick was very proud of his Irish ancestry and was greeted fondly by all the Irishmen he met.

Before his flying career started, he operated Redline Automotive, a successful car repair shop and was instrumental in restoring a 1970 Camaro with his brother Paul. He also did a frame-off restoration of his treasured 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle. His many customers were very complimentary of his skill in resolving problems. He was also a consummate entrepreneur with Redline Aviation, online sales, etc.

He enjoyed the camaraderie of his coffee buddies in their pursuit of resolving the ills of the world.

The world has lost not only a nice person, but a truly accomplished one. He will be sorely missed by all who met him and enjoyed his company. May he rest in peace.

Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. West, Toronto. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Friday December 6 and 2-3 pm on Saturday December 7, followed by the funeral service at 3pm. To honour his love of animals, a donation to the SPCA or an animal rescue organization in your area would be greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers. Patrick cared deeply for his feline roommates Buddy and Cleo. For those unable to attend in person a livestream link will be made available.

Pat was in Luskville at the dragway one afternoon when he saw my father working on his airplane, a Baby Great Lakes biplane, in his back yard (by his landing strip) in Luskville village.
Dad showed Patrick around his airplane. This event had quite an impact as soon after Patrick was studying to be an AME.
The rest is history.
Pat and I were colleagues at First Air in Iqaluit and had worked together, he as an apprentice engineer and me as a dispatcher. We were chatting over coffee when the boys came down to the office on night shift and only then did we put the pieces together.
Small world.
