David died peacefully at home at the age of 61, after suffering from rapidly progressive dementia. He was the son of the late Bill and June Greig. He was also a much beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend.
An avid nature lover, David spent much time hiking and cycling around southern Ontario and elsewhere. He could quite often be found swimming or sailing at the family cottage on Kawagama Lake. David cultivated an impressive knowledge of native plants, maintained a large garden, and ran an annual plant sale at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene for over 20 years. He also wrote a history of the church on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.
David was keen to try new things. After studying history, he built a career in instructional design and courseware development. He became an adventurous cook and a skilled wood carver. David will be remembered for his love of his family, his sense of humour, and his calm, supportive manner. He will be missed by many including his wife Julie Kretchman; children Ian, Mark, and Heather; brothers and sisters-in-law Michael, Patti, Martin, Anita, and Janice; and nieces and nephews Michael (Éliane), Megan, Tara (Tom), and Andrew.
If you would like to make a donation in David’s memory, we suggest Moorelands Camp (moorelandskids.ca), or The Church of St. Mary Magdalene (stmarymagdalene.ca).
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on December 4 at The Church of St. Mary Magdalene.
