In Celebration of

Patricia Waugh

November 16, 1936 -  January 27, 2024

Patricia Waugh died peacefully, on January 27, 2024, with her daughter at her side. Patricia was born in Liverpool in 1936, and met her husband, James, while riding the dodgem cars at New Brighton in Merseyside. James was the love of her life although she lost him in 2006. Patricia and James immigrated to Canada in 1958 and became patriotic Canadians, avid country dancers, hosts of numerous happy soirees and volunteers at endless Girl Guide and scouting events as well as Carassauga. Patricia was a gentle listener who loved to read stories to her grandchildren when they were young, and often laughed until she cried. Andrew, their beloved son, died in 2019 and will always be greatly missed. Patricia was predeceased by her lovely sister Jean, and is survived by grandchildren, Christopher, Philip, David and Isabel: her daughter, Jane, and her son-in-law, John. Patricia leaves behind treasured memories and countless acts of kindness. Mum, you were a trooper in the face of many trials. Goodnight, God Bless.

A small gathering will be held at the York Chapel of Turner & Porter on Sunday February 11th from 3PM – 5PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. The family is grateful for the kindness of the staff at Cawthra Gardens in Mississauga.

Dear Patricia,

You may not have realized, for me and I am sure for others, what you added to our lives with your little impacts over the years.

Thank you for giving me the joy of Classical Music.
Whenever I visited your home, there was background music. Most of the time soft classical music. Your home was the only place I listened to it and it wasn't until years later I realized how much I came to enjoy it.

Thank you for introducing me to the book "The Color Purple".
You knew I liked books but didn't enjoy reading long novels. You were reading this book at one of your courses. We talked about it and you thought I might enjoy it. You loaned it to me. You were right, it became one of my favourites.

Thank you for your amazing strength and positivity while battling Cancer.
What you were going through only you knew but to those of us around you, you were strong and brave. Your outlook and determination did not allow "it" to define you. You came through it. You were successful.

Thank you for "paying it forward".
So many people were touched by the way you reached out to help. It amazed me how as a Cancer Survivor you were able to pick up and take Cancer Patients to appointments and hospitals. Places you had spent so much time, places which I am sure brought back so many memories of difficult times and yet you still wanted to do it, to help.

Thank you for promoting the saying "you are never too old".
You went out to work again after years of looking after your family. You went back to school to educate yourself even more. Stepping into areas you think only young ones would be willing to do, but there you were and enjoying every moment of it.

But most of all I wish to "Thank You" for sharing Family Time with me.
As an only child, new to Canada, it was always the "three of us". That was fine but the visits to your home gave me family times again. I was able to enjoy the meals, the chatter and laughter, reminiscing about past times, new experiences. Watching your family and feeling a part of it was the best.

It is your time to rest now Pat but know you have left your mark and memories with us.
You will be missed.
Goodnight and God Bless.
Angela

Aunty Pat, many happy / treasured memories spring to mind when I think of the occasions when we were all together as a family. Lots of laughs around a big table. Reunited now with both Jim and Andrew at your side. You and all your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

A funny memory in 1964....Pat and I trying on hats in Morgan´s in the Cloverdale Mall....laughing so hard that I thought Security would be called and we would be escorted from the store....we did look kinda daft. REST IN PEACE PAT.

Patricia. For more than 40 years, I have known you as a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. On this board are multitudes of memories with their recurrent themes of your kindness, your warmth, your generosity, and your infectious laughter. I won the lottery when I married your daughter, and I won it again when I became your son-in-law. I could add many more stories, but I will limit myself to one.

Its 500 miles to Rockville. We have a full tank of gas, Sinatra on the radio, and a Scottish terrier in the back seat.
