Loving wife of Bill, loving mother to Scott (Mélanie), Christina (Scott), Melanie (Billy) and Steve (Kim), adoring grandma to Cameron, Alyssa, Mathieu, Ash, Kaitlyn and Abby. Leaves behind older sister Barb, predeceased by siblings Derek, Doreen, June, and Ron.
Pat loved music, and even met her lifelong partner through musical theatre. Her activities outside of her family centered on her love of her community and music. She was a devoted member of Bethesda, and later Applewood, United Church. She spent decades singing in the church choir, and made many lifelong friends through the church.
Pat was a huge presence in life. She was kind and generous to a fault. Family was the cornerstone of her entire existence. In her later years she lived for her 6 grandchildren and loved them fiercely. She attended every birthday, hockey game, soccer game, race, concert, school play and graduation ceremony that she was able to and was always one of their biggest cheerleaders and supporters in anything they did. A card never failed to show up in the mail for anything that was important to them. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy; as anyone who has ever received one of her famous Christmas letters could tell you. Pat was our matriarch, our glue, the keeper of all our traditions and the knower of all the recipes. Annual Christmas tree trimming, the making of the traditional Christmas fruitcake, Pancake Tuesday, every birthday and every holiday was a seized opportunity for her to surround herself with the family she loved so much. Life will never be the same without you, but we will carry you with us as we pass those traditions on.
Pat lived life on her own terms, and cancer was to be no different. Pat died exactly how she wanted to: in her own bed, in her sleep, next to her husband of 58 years. Even cancer was no match for the will of Patricia Docherty.
So long as there are people alive who knew you and loved you, then you continue to live on; in that regard Pat Docherty will be with us all for many decades to come. We love you Pat/Mom/Grandma, we hope you know what a gigantic hole you have left in our worlds and just how loved you are.
