In Celebration of
Patricia "Bunny" Brownridge
February 16, 1924 -
October 28, 2022
Our beloved mother, Bunny Brownridge of Burlington, Ontario, passed peacefully on October 28, 2022.
Bunny was born in Toronto on February 16, 1924. Her parents were Joseph Vincent Joyce and Kathleen Mary Bernadette Clifford. She grew up the middle child between older sister Margaret (Margo) and younger sister Norma (Boots). Gifted musically and academically, Bunny attended Loretto College School, where she studied voice, and graduated at the age of 17. A year later she began her university studies at St. Michael’s College. She was drama president and one of the first female cheerleaders at U of T. She graduated with an Honours BA in 1946. On campus she met Alan Brownridge, a young naval officer returning from service to continue his studies in engineering. They married in 1948 and moved to Hamilton where Alan began his career with Procter & Gamble.
A caring and creative wife, and mother to Rick, Patti and Doug, Bunny was a member of the University Women’s Club and active on the Art Gallery of Hamilton Women’s Committee.
Summers were spent at the cottage on Muldrew Lake in Muskoka, which Alan and Bunny built in the 1960s.
Winters were about skiing at the Caledon Ski Club. Later, when Alan retired, they wintered in Naples, Florida.
She saw all of her children married: Patti to David Plant in 1979, Doug to Joan Bauer in 1981, and Rick to Joni Blanshard in 1987. She was a loving grandmother to her nine grandchildren, and embraced two step-grandchildren when Doug married Jacquie Ulman in 2004.
Her final delight was to become a great grandmother, welcoming at least one new baby each year from 2018 to 2022, for a total of nine… and counting.
Bunny was blest by family, loved them all dearly, and was dearly loved in return.
At age 98, more than halfway to 99, she left us peacefully and is now at rest.
Bunny is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and by her sister Norma Emon.
As a family we wish to offer special thanks to the wonderful people of Tansley Woods Retirement Village in Burlington, for their kindness and care of Bunny. You loved her as family and she loved you all back.
