It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Panagiotis (Peter) Tzovanis, 84, of Mississauga Ontario, who died at Mississauga Hospital on April 29, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with a devastating illness.
Peter was born on August 12, 1940, to Athanasios and Giannoula Tzovanis in Kosma, Arcadia, Greece. He was born two months before the occupation of Greece during WWII. He lived the early years of his life through the perils of war. In 1956, at the tender age of sixteen, he immigrated to Canada in search of a better life. In 1960, he married the love of his life Mary and they had two sons, Athanasios and Sam. To support his family, Peter worked diligently. In the late seventies, he seized the opportunity to establish and develop a prosperous restaurant business. Together with his brother-in-law Jim, The Magic Spot became one of the most popular eateries on the Royal York. In 2002, Peter retired to pursue his other passions; gardening, beekeeping, fishing, and hunting. He was an outdoorsman at heart. The only thing Peter loved more than the wilderness was dancing and singing with family and friends at gatherings.
Peter is survived by his wife Mary, his sons Athanasios Tgovanis (Carla) and Sam Vanis, his granddaughters Blanka Dowell (David) and Maria Vanis, his great grandchildren Lily Dowell, and Waylon Dowell, his sisters Roula Makos (late Nick), Argyro Mermigas (George), Georgia Geropoulos (Bill), brothers-in-law Jim Groubos (Josie) and John Groubos (Carmela), sister-in-law Georgina Pasalis (late Nick), cousins, nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Athanasios and Giannoula, and his sister Potoula Skorinis.
Peter will be remembered as a kind and generous man with a big personality who opened his heart and home. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
