Otto Georg Schack von Staffeldt

1932-2020

Otto passed away at home in his 89th year on the morning of November 5, 2020 following a brief illness.

He was predeceased by his parents Georg Schack von Staffeldt and Karen Simonsen, his brother Ernst, his beloved Heidi (2018) and Mary (1970).

Family in Denmark will dearly miss him, including his daughter Vibeke (Nikolaj), first wife Inge Poulsen, Granddaughter Mie (Martin) his sister, Anna, nephews Christian (Lene) and Richard

In Europe he will be missed by the Terassi family.

In Canada, he is lost to the Elliot family, the Addison family, his good friends Gail Jackson, Moira Higgins, and Irene Puddicombe – his three Amiga’s. Many friends at Six Mile Lake and around the world as well as those who make up the Air Canada family.

Otto chose Canada as his home in 1957 and over the years built a career with Trans Canada Airlines soon to become Air Canada.

He forged friendships that have stood the test of time. He will be remembered by all who knew him with the respect and love he earned during his kind and gentle life.

Please raise a glass to him. A fine single malt scotch was one of his special pleasures.

At his request, cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest with Heidi at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Farewell to THE GREAT DANE!! As he was known to his Air Canada friends and colleagues.

I remember “The Great Dane” well. Otto and Heidi were a joy to work with at Air Canada. In the 1970’s. Otto was kind and patient even during very stressful situations of delayed flights and irate passengers. We lost touch after I left AC but I do remember him fondly. My condolences to those close friends and family he leaves.

I met Otto (and Heidi) in 1990 when I transferred from Winnipeg with Air Canada. Knowing that I had no family in the area, and that shift work (along with seasonal full flight loads meaning I couldn't get home) they made sure that I was not alone for the holidays. I was welcomed as family in their home. Subsequently, I was a regular at the Six Mile Lake annual extravaganza. Otto's gentle good nature was always a welcome calm. After Heidi's passing, I tried to keep in touch with Otto (not as frequently as I should have) but we had a couple of lunches and a visit or two at his condo. I last spoke to Otto a few weeks before his passing and he was calm and at ease, knowing that he wouldn't be alone anymore. Rest well Otto

Don
