Olive Leslie passed away in her 96th year on May 31st with her goddaughter Suzanne by her side.
Olive was born in Cork Ireland and came to Toronto with her lifelong friend Heather Smye in 1954 to be her maid of honour, when Heather married Norman Merrick. Olive decided to stay and make Toronto her new home. Olive later met Joy Alexander at the Church of the Good Shepard in Weston and they remained friends and lived together for almost 40 years until Joy passed in 1999.
Olive was godmother to Heathers first child Suzanne in 1959, Joy was godmother to Kathy born the following year in 1960 and Aunty Olive to Kevin born in 1961. As children we loved going to Olive and Joy’s home for the weekend and for family dinners, Christmas, and many other happy occasions. Olive joined us for vacations including a trip back to Ireland in 1965 and Hawaii in 2004.
Olive had a long successful career working for the Township, City of North York at the time, and retired in 1987.
Olive then spent many more years tirelessly volunteering at Humber Memorial Hospital and eventually the new Etobicoke General Hospital.
Olive came to Vancouver to spend Christmas with our family every year from 2003 to 2019 until she could no longer handle the long flights.
Olive moved to Parkland Eglington West in 2020 when it opened and made new friends there. Olive was so well looked after by the Parkland staff, with special thanks to the 5th floor PSW’s and nursing staff for their expert and kind care of Olive.
Although Olive had no children of her own. We were her children and she was part of our family all of our lives. Olive was a kind, and generous person.
She will be deeply missed and remembered with love by us all.
