In Celebration of

Olga Novick

November 1, 1927 -  December 14, 2019

It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Olga Novick on Saturday, December 14th, 2019, at the age of 92 while asleep at home. Beloved wife of the late Nicholas Novick. Dear sister of Sally Franko and the late Joseph Dowbenka. Olga is survived by her children Catherine Novick (Gordon Ray), Mary West (Malcolm) and Paul Novick (Teresa). Cherished Baba of Julian Novick, Trevor, and Samantha West, and Jacob Novick.

Olga amazed all those who had the good fortune to meet her. She was a very special, strong, and charismatic lady who left her mark on many. Her desire to be independent stood out in her character. Her love for her family was unconditional. Her warmth, kindness, and inclusiveness extended beyond family and friends. Olga was not shy to reach out to strangers with the same embracing personality.

Olga loved the theatre and opera, needlework, gardening, cooking, and reading. Her thirst for knowledge was insatiable and her collection of books reflected her wide range of interests. She had her own style and was not one to be influenced by others. Her contagious sense of humour, movie star looks, engaging smile and the sparkle in her eye will live on in our memories.

In accordance with Olga’s wishes, cremation has been arranged. There will be a small private family service in the new year. In Olga's name, donations to The Shaw Festival Theatre in Niagara-on-the-Lake would be greatly appreciated.

Rest In Peace, my dear Aunt Olga. I have so many great memories of growing up around you — all those big family dinners and summers at Nine Mile Lake. You gave me my first tube of lipstick! Avon, of course! Most of all, I remember how much we laughed whenever we spent time together. You always asked me so many questions! To Cathy, Mary, Paul and families, sending my love and condolences. Olga was very lucky to have such a dedicated bunch looking after her in her later years.

Cathy, Mary, Paul and families, I am very sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of your Mom from our many summers 'across the lake' at Nine Mile.
My thoughts are with you and your families. With Sympathy, Carol Armstrong

Sincerest condolences to Olga’s family. Although I met her in her later years, she left a lasting impression. She was strong, kind, feisty, and incredibly witty. She loved to tell me stories about Nine Mile Lake, family trips to Europe, life in Don Mills, and even safaris in Africa. She was curious about all topics and she’d have me Googling answers to so many questions. I was never more knowledgeable than I was on those days when I’d sit and chat with Olga! She was a bright light and a kind soul, and I’m grateful for having known her. Rest In Peace, my friend.
